    Check the "Wrestlemania" thread mate.

By all accounts, it's a steaming pile of ****e.

        It certainly seems that way.

Each and their own I guess.

          From the Wrestlemania thread:

That's weird, cos I've downloaded the ISO and I have to say it's possibly the worst pile of crap I've played in a long, long time.

The worst issues are that it's so bloody slow (as an example of the slowness, Hogan is still standing next to the mountain whilst Hendrix is singing about chopping it down with the edge of his hand!)

It's like they've recorded it at full Smackdown speed and slowed it right down. The cruiserweights looks absolutely idiotic being as slow as they are and it takes between 2 and 3 seconds for the button press to actually connect with the other superstar.

Your movement is completely restricted, so no going up the ramp, or moving down the left or right sides of the cell. You can't throw guys off the top of the cell either, nor put them through the roof. Additionally, the presentation is bordering on terrible with some really poor models (as well as some excellent ones) texturing that looks like cell shading at some points and some really unrealistic looking "sheen" on the characters. Brock Lesnar ends up looking like some little tubby kid during his entrance due to this.

Not to mention that champions don't carry/wear their belts, ladder matches are won by climbing to the top of the ladder and tapping any button solidly for a minute and a half and some of the music is so poorly encoded, you'll end up ripping better quality MP3's to the hard drive in order to replace them (Goldust's has the worst sound quality I've ever heard in a track in a commercial video game since the death of the 16 bit era). And season mode makes no sense what so ever.

And collision detection? Some of that would have been nice...

On the positive side, the CAW mode is really quite versatile and easy to use and some of the animations are just right, so Shawn Michaels has all of his "sexy boy" mannerisms and Y2J does all of his posturing, even if it does run like Y2J will when he's 80.

But the game is just so utterly ****, that it isn't worth bothering with at all. If it were faster it might be good, but it's like playing in treacle.

Smackdown is going to be where it's at again, I reckon although it's gonna take a lot to get me off of Saturday Night Slam Masters on KawaX.

          -----------------------------------------

Edit: You can put someone off the cell in Raw 2.

          But there's a few stipulations:

          1) The wrestler must be stood on the edge of the cell tottering.

          2) They must be stood right in front of the annoncers table.

Then you just hit A or X and they get knocked off and through the table.

It's not possible anywhere else and it can't be done any other way (it's so **** doing a super kick and seeing a guy hit an invisible wall and stay on the cell).

          -----------------------------------------------

I've been playing it a bit more and the bugs are absolutely unforgiveable.

In a tag match, when you pin, your team mate comes in and breaks up your own pin!!!!

And when you're being pinned, your team mate runs in and kicks YOU to break it up, leaving you wounded on the ground for the opponent to beat further **** out of you.

And I was feuding with Randy Orton and Crash Holly. I managed to get a match against Orton and Crash interferes with the match. ****, 2-on-1 I think. But he attacks Orton and kicks the crap out of him instead. I thought it was a face turn at first, but our relationship was still showing up as negative in the stats and his with Orton as positive.

Plus, I also interfered in a ladder match and threw in a load of weapons and watched bemused as the CPU controlled Spike Dudley and Matt Hardy proceded to pick up a weapon each, stand there for 5 seconds and then drop it and pick up another one. And do this over and over again. And they never attempted to move or attack each other once. The match was never going to end, so I had to quit out and lose my progress.

Plus I also had a match with the big show where he pinned me for a two count and as I was getting up he pinned me again for 2, and he repeated pinning me about 20 times until I turned the power off in disgust.

          -------------------------------------------------

Burai: Is it worth getting for multiplayer? Is hitting wrestlers with weapons as satisfying as No Mercy?

Only if you like playing really **** games with your friends.

Weapons satisfying? Maybe if they'd bothered to implement any kind of accurate collision detection. Wacth as a grounded Rey Mysterio doubles over in pain as Goldberg jams a chair into the air half a metre above his stomach!

          ------------------------------------------------------
In short, all of the reviews you've read haven't played the game, except Gamespot (which is ironic, if you think about it). Everyone has just reviewed the featureset and assumed all the bugs from pre-release versions would have been fixed. This includes CVG who would have gone to press before or very close to the date that the final code was even available to reviewers.

The entire Raw 2 team at Anchor have been fired as a result of letting all the bugs out.

It now becomes clear why guys like IGN never got their review copies until after the release date (whereas finished copies of WMXIX have been doing the rounds for weeks before release). THQ are on damage limitation. All the reviews that have cropped up early have been made up on the basis of betas and promises in order to get an important exclusive review in.

I don't listen to IGN, Gamespot or any proper website reviews, I just go on the TeamXbox forums and ask people on there and everyone is split two ways.

I'm gonna give this game a rental when it comes out in the UK because I do love my wrestling games

Im in progress of a review and I have to say Im not finding it that bad, the games bugs only shine in a match with lots of AI fighting at once or in a special match.

There are some plain careless and stupid mistakes though, anywyay I'll post up my review when Im done.

I think Burai is focusing more on the negatives rather then the positives, I mean its fun to play most of the time and the CAW mode (especially the entrance bit) is the most intricate Ive seen (The entrance bit...of course Fire Pro is better). Anyway, I'll post my thoughts up by friday

Don't - please, don't. I love wrestling too and so does a colleague of mine - both of us agree it's the worst piece of crap ever. As long as you've got a PS2, you're far better off waiting for Smackdown: HCTP. It's sooooo much better... I'm loving it.

Its not that bad once you get into it! I spent ages on it on the weekend. Meh, you people expect too much, its better then the pile of crap that was Wrestlemania X8.

                    We expect too much?

you mean stuff like decent AI?

Just because one game was a complete turd, doesn't mean we should fully embrace another crap game, simply because it's a bit better.

Anyway, Mart can you divulge any info on the new SD5. If so:

                    1. Are ladders that lay on the ground interactable. I.e. if I power bomb an opponent and the ladder is in the way, do you hearand see them slam into it, or does it still magically float away? I loved No Mercy's ladder matches as they incorporated the ladder perfectly.

                    2. How does Season Mode play? (you know that is such an easy question and should only take you a few seconds to answer )

any chance of them giving this turd a spit and shine for the PAL release? First RAW, then 'the Wild Rings' and now RAW2. Lets hope THQ give it to AKi.

Looks like its back to Fire Pro Wrestling D for a 4th year.

See what you've done there, son? You've been impressed by the superfluous details such as CAW and entrance editing that you've forgotten the main bit. The playing of the game.

That's why my appraisal contains more negativity than yours. I focus on the important bits. You focus on the bits that don't really matter at the end of the day. Are you honestly telling me that CAW is more important than the ability to finish a tag match without resorting to forcing a count-out every single time? Or that Hulk Hogan playing air guitar authetically is more important that the game not being a complete stinking pile of crap?

Don't expect anything but pure gushiness from him :lol

He's already started prancing round the office in lycra (not a pretty site) and I'm convinced the little sod is going to make me his new tag partner when he current one flys the coop at the end of the week.

I'm sure (this thread being a prime example) that you all understand the whole Love/Hate thing with this game. I rented the first one and I really didn't mind it, I guess with wrestling games you're either a Smackdown man or a Raw man and I think I'm a Raw man (Although Smackdown 1's season mode rocked!).
