Best way of transfering stuff from old 360 to NEW Xbox 360 Slim

I've just pre-ordered the new 360 slim at Gamestation cos ?100 aint too much to ask for on top of my 360 Elite 120GB bearing in mind its got built in wi-fi N and a bigger 250GB hard drive.

My question though is, whats the best way of transfering my games, videos, saves onto the new 360 slim?

On Gamestations website its says...

(External Xbox 360 Hard Drives and Xbox 360 Memory Units are not compatible with the new Xbox 360 Console.)

Use a standard 360 HDD transfer cable.
It appears that they've rolled the transfer software in to the 360 itself so no need to fanny around for the right disc.

Gamestation should give you the option of copying the data over when you trade the old console in.
MS have also enabled you to use USB sticks (up to 16 GB per stick/device) so that is an option as well.

I'd imagine they will tell you what to do when you actually get your new unit wont they?

How would anybody know now seeing that nobody has a 360 Slim?
Kept you waiting, huh?

True, but it's better to prepare myself knowing what to do than lose all my saves in excitement getting home and realising what a cock up I coulda made!

Ok well I'm no Xbox 360 genius or anything, but surely you'd want to just back up all your saves to a USB stick and then re-d/l everything else? That's how it works with PS3, at least for the stuff that isn't copy protected <rage> like my 188 hours worth of Demon's Souls and 100% Biohazard 5 data.</rage>

You can move copy protected stuff via a direct ps3 to ps3 network cable connection now.

Yes, but at the expense of stuff that you may already have saved on the new one that is also copy protected.

Copy your games saves to a USB stick and redownload your DLC and XBL stuff then re-install any games to HDD.

Does anyone know if the license transfer will be allowed twice in a year? Bought a replacement 360 not too long ago and don't want to have to wait for 11 odd months to transfer licenses again (especially due to the amount of cash I've dropped on XBL in the past couple of days!)

Just redownload them all. Easiest by a mile.

I hope giving microsoft a ring would sort it out for you, especially when you are purchasing a new slim. I only just transferred mine a couple of months. Will give them a ring before i do it.
