Casino had continuum shift last time I was there. On a sort of LCD Megalo-ish cab. Was pretty cool.

Looks similar to the Lindbergh cabs at the Sega Center Akihabara, absolutely gorgeous.

Right, I've just got back from Weston-Super-Mare, where they've just rebuilt the pier after a fire a few years back and there's a big arcade at the end of it.

Question is, do you want lots of pics (about 30) or just a handful (5 to 10)?

Nah, it was more like a Megalo with an LCD monitor in.

Also, I don't think Lindbergh have any character. They're just an LCD TV with a control panel and a small cabinet, same can be said for vewlix.

I think 'screenburn Arcade' is one of the coolest names you could think of for an arcade.

So, I've just been to Weston-Super-Mare for the weekend and spent a bit of time on the Grand Pier in their arcade. The pier's pavillion was completely destroyed by fire in 2008 and only reopened in October 2010 after spending ?39m on it.

There's a Laser Maze where you have to walk through a room without tripping laser beams (think Entrapment), 4D Cinema, Hall of Mirrors, Robocoaster and 300m electric Go-Karts, which cost ?1m and is the only one in the UK.

We had a great time and spent a little bit of cash, but I can imagine it's easy to spend a fortune there!

Don't forget, the classic arcade of yore no longer exists. There's no rows of standard cabs playing the likes of Final Fight, but lots of pound-a-pop "experience" games. There were also a lot of crane games and ones that gave tickets to redeem for prizes.

With that in mind, on with the snaps!

A View from the first floor. It got a lot busier than this later on!

The tower drop ride is on the right and Robocoaster is on the left.

A seaside arcade wouldn't be complete without a shootout. The Dead Man's Cove pirate theming made a nice change from "Zeke kicked the bucket".

Deadstorm Pirates was a big motion cab with a pirate-themed shooting game like House of The Dead.

The F1 Simulator was very impressive and always drew crowds. There's one driver in the middle and 2 passenger seats. It really was a very impressive set up. They had two units and a TopGear-style magnetic lap-time board.

A slightly cut-down version was Sega's F355! Still a nice cab with the triple screen set up and choice of gearboxes.

Final Furlong 2 is guaranteed to make people look silly!

GalacTix was a ticket vending game where you had to aim a missile at the mothership in the centre.

The Go-Karts were really impressive and spread out over 2 floors. There were lots of opportunities to overtake and some tricky sections where people regularly spun out.

There were 3 Guitar Hero Arcade cabs.

H2 Overdrive was a brash and noisy speedboat racing game. You have to manage your boosts wisely, and there's some fun courses. I was a bit miffed that despite coming first, I had to play to continue racing. No sir, that's not Gentlemanly so I declined!

Primeval Hunt was a dinosaur shooting game. The touchscreen at the bottom let you select your target and you walked there. Bit of a con, because as soon as you were out of ammo, it was game over.
It also felt a bit cruel blasting dinos who weren't really doing anything wrong!

The Laser Maze. You could watch progress from outside and there were different settings of difficulty. This is the only one in the UK and the only double-lane one in the world, cor!

Pac-Man Ball is like crack to me. If you've never played it, it's like a cross between pusher coin falls, Puzzle Bobble and bagatelle. You put the coin in and it drops from the top and bounces down a peg board onto the coin shelves. If the coin passes through a fruit marker, Pac-Man fires a ball onto the pile below and if two matching balls touch, they disappear and the pile adjusts with gravity. If you're lucky, you'll set of a big chain or activate a Pac-Event and it'll spew dozens of coins onto the shelves. Awesome and it's all Pac-Man themed.

Sega's Rambo. Plenty of footage from the films in it.

                        The Robocoaster in action!

                        Robot Football!

Marathon Runner was quite funny and gave tickets depending on how far you ran.

Speed Rider is a motorbike game. They had 2 twin cabs linked for 4-player races.

Star Ball, AquaJet and Air Trix.

                        Spin Swing ride. *hurl*

Aliens Extinction and Tekken 5. Screen was awful on Tekken, but I still had a go

Terminator Salvation was quite good fun. To reload, you had to hit the magazine at the bottom of the gun. A little bit too HotD for me in that you weren't sure why you'd been hit or the Terminator units would still get a hit in before they died. Nice theming, gun and graphics, even if it did look like Fallout 3!

Fast and the Furious Drift. Note the Spongebobs in the crane to the left!

This VR Machine was running a Go-Karts simulator and seemed quite vigorous.

Finally, my fave game of the day was Namco's Tank! Tank! Tank! which was a real blast to play. It hit all the right buttons for me. Bright, Super-Deformed theming, giant mecha-monsters destroying Tokyo, buildings collapsing, noisy speakers blasting the music/sfx, motion seats that recoiled every time you fired, a selection of weapons and great 4-player fun. You could play 2 Vs. 2, free-for-all or (my fave) team up to take down the monsters. There were giant wasps and spiders that you had to take out 100 of and then giant monsters like the Octo-Giant (half robo-octopus, half battleship) and a Mecha Ghidorah-style monster.

I reckon Prinny would love this too as it's like EDF but with tanks!

                        Other games not pictured included:
                        Outrun 2
                        Sega Rally
                        Crazy Taxi
                        Silent Scope 2
Pump It Up DX 3 Premiere
                        Dancing Stage Fusion
                        Jungle Safari
                        Sega Touring Car
House of the Dead 1, 2 and 4!
                        18 Wheeler
                        Time Crisis 3
                        Virtua Striker
                        Alpine Racer 2
                        Manx TT Superbike

I had a fantastic time and can't wait to play some more Tank! Tank! Tank!

EPIC SAUCES! This looks completely ace, and totally my thing. I think your next task should be to steal the machine and transport it to me posthaste. I may even let you have another go!

love the Ghidorah tribute. The whole thing makes me want to Tommy Tank Tank Tank.

It looks quite interesting and i'm going there later in the year so I'll check it out but you would have thought they could have at least got one Street Fighter IV or something.

Nice pics, but not that dissimilar from the 'Amusment Centre' on the Aberdeen beach front, only bigger. I do love those Pac-Man money fall things though. They can be very addictive.

There is nothing like some good old Arcade pics in these amusement parks/centres, to really put a nostalgic smile on my face
