We had 18 last week, but news is Taito HEY! Akihabara just installed a few more up to 18 so they just had to go one (or two) better.
A lot of people are pushing for the card system to make it here, but that requires a deal between Taito and a chosen telecoms network. Even if we had 40 cabs in every arcade (around 50 arcades island-wide) there would still only be a very small chance of that.
It's f**kin sick. I've got my mrs. hooked on Fishing Season now as well (she's saving up the points for either a PS3 or portable air-con unit) so I spend most of my time at the arcade now. I down about $50 (25 quid) there a week and I'm constantly playing.
If anyone from here wants an arcade holiday I'd have to recommend Singapore. It's easy to get around, everyone speaks good-perfect English, and I'm here. I've yet to sample Tokyo however.
No sofa, me and the mrs. rent a bedroom from a family. Don't worry though, I was hinting last night about buying an apartment in the block that sits directly on top of one of the best arcades. My favourite tea and ice cream shops are also very close by.
With the closure of the London Trocadero's Funland this past July and the imminent departure of coin-op godfather Yu Suzuki from SEGA, the decline of arcade gam
Saw a poster for the new IIDX which is out this week in my "local" arcade. Gonna have to pay a visit this week methinks. Think I'll cry when I finally have to return back to the UK and have no arcade Bemani titles within driving distance.
Just been back to Weston-Super-Mare and thought I'd update the thread.
Firstly, the weather was AWESOME! Absolutely scorching. Here's a shot from the pier in the morning:
The Grand Pier didn't seem to have any new machines, but they put a fair bit of cash into it being set up last year, so I can understand them not splashing out any more. I think they're investing in the dodgems at the moment, so arcade games took a backseat. It's still a great place and the F1 simulators and Go-Karts are brilliant (see my previous post in this thread for pics).
Again, I pumped loads of cash into Pac-Man ball (best pusher game ever) and Tank! Tank! Tank!
There's a couple of arcades opposite the pier and Funshine had a few games I'd not seen before.
First up was Panic Museum, which was a fairly funny parody of House of the Dead. You play a couple of agents investigating a museum at night. You use the guns as torches to explore the various themed wings of the museum such as Egypt, military and ocean and then shoot absolutely everything. It plays a lot like HotD with health packs to blast if you get a spare second and several upgrades like Full-Auto or shotgun, but I much prefer this as it's tough enough but not unfair like HotD. Had a lot of fun on this, despite the gun I had shooting at a crazy angle! (The nice technician did try to fix it and gave me a couple of free credits to make up for it).
They also had a couple of driving games. There was an update to GTI club, which looked great fun and the handbrake gimmick still sets this aside from other racers. There's a much bigger selection of cars this time too.
Finally, there was a really good drifting game called D1GP Arcade. There's several modes to play like getting the most drift points and drifting in unison with another driver. I spent my go in the drifting school which teaches you the basics of how to slide your car around the track with advice from real drift drivers. It felt really unpressured and a great way to get into the game. Naturally, I chose a Trueno! You can buy cards to keep track of your data too.
My friend's uncle owns a snooker / pool joint and I've been trying to persuade him to tell his uncle to get some decent games in, the ones I've seen are in terrible condition. Then I see the last post and feel pretty annoyed. The museum game looks great.
That guy is crazy in a good way, someone needs to give him a bulletproof vest. Why do so many home games like Razing Storm have the cross hairs turned on? I can't calibrate perfectly so it helps but I'd rather play with them off.
That Tank Tank Tank game reminds me of Panzer Front on the DC, looks awesome! As for arcades, the same is finally happening in Japan too (although not on the same scale) were traditional cabinets are generally being replaced with crane/darts/fake casino amusements.
