    Stop the bashing

What the hell's going on lately? This was a place where you could talk about and enjoy games, not somewhere where we could all take it in turns to slag off something we didn't like.

The recent continual bashing of Microsoft and Xbox is getting pretty ****ing tired (and sad).

Quotes like the following are simply priceless.
Perhaps it's the whole Japanese honour thing (forgive my ignorance), however, we never get the impression of Sony and Nintendo openly at each others throats. My impression is that while they are adversaries, they respect each others products and creations. However, with MS being an american company, the gloves are off. There is no honour... who dares wins and you do what you need to do to get to the top. I honestly believe that the Japanese companies are not ready for this onslaught. It's the "shock and awe" of the marketing world.
Japanese honour? Don't make me laugh, business is business. Read Game Over by David Sheff (Scheff?) it's a great read and shows that Nintendo has acted like complete sods in the past (the public humilation of Sony disc drive for the SNES being a classic example). I can appreciate that there are a lot of import gamers here, but I can't understand why people constantly treat Nintendo as a cute little cuddly entity that simply has to be loved. As for 'shock and awe tactics', SEGA, a japanese company, used to do this all the time with the MEgadrive.

Oh and what about Ken Kuturagi's over the top bull about "playing on the PS2 will be like plugging into the MAtrix"?

At the end of the day, all these companies are in this industry for one thing, to make lots and lots of money. Sure, Microsoft may have been telling porky pies here and there, but it's no diffrent from what its competitors are doing, or have done in the past.

So many people knock the Xbox for no other reason than because Microsoft made it, if it had a Nintendo or Sony label on it, you'd all be cumming in your pants.

Sorry about the long rant, but this was one of the best sites around. At the moment it just seems to be full of childish bickering

To be honest from the thread title it is usually pretty clear whether it is a "bashing" thread or a "praising" thread.

If you only like reading the latter why dont you keep out of threads which are obviously the former?

There is a lot of bashing on this board, but there is also a lot of praise.

Some people here, myself included, likes to both bash and praise games as I see it, so I like there to be a nice mix .

That's fair enough, but not when it starts to drag the site down. I've never remembered it being this nasty.

LOL.. didn't think my post would start such a thing.

Yeap.. Ninty have been pretty damn evil in the past.. as have every company. As I said, business is business... what I was refering to is that now we're seeing a more blatant in your face marketing that I'm certainly not used to. It's like the whole Pepsi vs Coke thing in the US. Almost goes as far as having a Coke ad that simply says "Pepsi is teh suck".

I also did say "pardon my ignorance" and also say that, perhaps I was too young to notice these things during the whole SNES/Megadrive era...

I wasn't bashing MS.. my Xbox has pride of place beside my Cube.. it's the PS2 that doesn't get used just now...

              Chill..

On that particular thread, I don't think my post was out of place. If you didn't agree with it, post in that thread and keep it self contained.

If you want a forum that bashes.. head over to IGN Cube.. now that's good for a laugh.

Of course it is, in fact I'm doing it as we type

Joking aside however, I was trying to make a point. Why can't we leave the companies out of it and just enjoy the machines and games

Sorry Scott I didn't meet to single you out, it was the most recent example I could think of. As for going to IGN... I prefer it here

The thing is.. format wars have been going since the dawn of time... Speccy vs C64 was the first that I remember. The companies that push their machines, the games that they publish on those formats and their reasons for doing so and their long term stratagies are good discussion points... some people may not agree with Sony and MS' vision for home entertainment content delivery. Some people may not agree with Nintendo's "simply games" strategy and their lack of clear vision for online gaming even though they perhaps hold the key to the best MMORPG ever.. Pokemon online.

However, I would say that there's more to gaming than simply the games now adays, perhaps more so than ever. The next generation will see, imho, a clear strategy from Sony and MS that differs radically from Nintendo, and, imho, will be the most interesting one to date. To discuss these things, what we like about them, why some of us fear for our favourite pastime as a direct result of these strategies, is very valid discussion.

                      imho of course.

So you're quite proud that NTSC's forums are getting similar to the likes of Madgamers?

what about the reverse, forgiving ms because the general feeling is that people hate them, would you be saying the same thing if everyone was bashing nintendo?

Again, very good points, it's just a shame that it currently feels like a witch hunt.

Of course I would say the same thing if everyone was bashing Nintendo. I just felt that the last few weeks have been getting a wee bit over the top and thought I'd say something.
