    point and click- best choices?

Having missed them the first time around I've decided to have a go at some point and click adventures.
General faves seem to be the various monkey islands and the sam + max adventures so I'll guess I'll try these first.

    I have a PS3/Wii and iMac

What format should I be looking to play them on?
    Wanna keep costs low obviously.

ScummVM on the iMac would be the easiest, since it's got a mouse.

My favourite is Monkey Island. 1, 2 and 3 are all great, but don't touch the fourth one with a barge pole.

Nearly all point and clicks by Lucas Arts are great, though. There's also stuff like Simon the Sorcerer, Beneath a Steel Sky and the brilliant Broken Sword 1 & 2. BASS is actually freeware now.

Discworld is very funny, but the first one is mega hard. The second one's quite easy.

I like these games but I find them mega-cryptic, I was going to make a similar thread actually. About to start MI2 today and I remember giving up last time, bleh.

I'd like to have a go on fate of atlantis next, maybe.

Which are the most managable to finish without a superbrain or guide?

Day of the tentacle is a pretty good one, funny & the puzzles are not too brain bending.

Have you got Steam for Mac? There's a Lucasarts adventure pack on there for just ?6.99. It contains both Indiana Jones games, Loom and The Dig. So that would be a great start.

You can also get Tales Of Monkey Island on there. It's an excellent episodic series but I wouldn't play it until you've played the first two games. I believe both are available as special editions on PSN.

I'm actually playing Broken Sword again right now, and it's as great as it ever was. But you need to get a Game Gear/Master System and Cosmic Spacehead, the greatest game ever made!

Don't forget your classic Sierra point n clicks as well they always gave Lucasarts a run for their money.

King's Quest series, Police Quest series, Space Quest series, Leisure Suit Larry series, Gabriel Knight Trilogy.

              Oldies.
Beneath a Steel Sky, absolute CLASSIC.
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
              Flight of the Amazon Queen
              The Longest Journey
              Syberia 1 & 2
              Still Life

New ones, I don't know about MAC compatibility.
              Machinarium MAC compatible
              The Last Vampyre
              Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island
              The Whispered World
              So Blonde

              Wii Titles to consider.
              Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – The Director’s Cut

Out of the ones I've played...

                Best comedy ones:

                Monkey Island 1 & 2
                Sam and Max
                Day of the Tentacle
Discworld 1 (WARNING: incredibly tough puzzles)
                Discworld 2 (much easier)

                Best 'serious'
Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis (randomised puzzles ftw. Don't pick the action path)
                Broken Sword 1&2

                  Thanks for the recommendations.
Think I will dip my toe in the water with Monkey Island 1 + 2.

Am i right in thinking these are on PSN now? Haven't got steam for mac.

2 is definitely out on PSN, I'm playing it on ipad and the hints are really great, they don't give the game away completely but give you enough to carry on, 22% and just finished the first chapter, 2 hours total. I wasn't a fan of the new graphics but going back to the old ones, I definitely prefer the new with the interface etc. Great game.

                      Policenaughts and Snatcher?

Could emulate on iMac I imagine.

I meant to say before... I absolutely love Zack & Wiki on Wii. It's effectively a point and click, although not in the same mould as the classics.

No mention of Toonstruck at all?

Brilliant game, shame it was shoved out the door half finished to die on its arse. Also really difficult to get working on any modern pcs. :/

Man I said I wouldn't use any hints on MI2 but tapping with 3 fingers to get a hint is too easy. Sigh. Too damn cryptic.

At least the hints it provides you with dont totally ruin it for you I guess.

edit: I noticed a bug on chapter 2 also

At one point during the roulette betting game thing, you say 22 red to him and he says 22 red, ok, etc, and both times the subtitles write it as 32 red'

Anyone know if that happened in the original? Wasn't sure if it was intentional humour or not.
