Anyone downloading this now is mad! Just a bit of patience, it's only a few weeks away! Gears2 online trumps this by a long shot. It's a new interface!! That's all really. It's not worth missing out on 2 weeks of Horde for it.
I'm looking forward to it, sounds like it makes the XB more enjoyable to use (the speed increase sounds great!). I doubt MS will decide to release it "early" now, despite the downloadable version, but we can hope.
Regarding the HDD upgrade, I'd recommend going the official route. Yes the MS stuff is a rip-off, but from what I understand you could conceivably be banned if you do it - MS can tell if you've got a "hacked" HDD, even if they're not banning them. Right now. With the HDD install about to hit, it's not beyond the realms of possibility someone will work out how to mod that so a hacked NXE on a HDD doesn't require the original games. At that point, MS may blanket any unofficial HDDs they detect.
That's a stretch maybe, but I'd be careful. I picked up a 120gb for £60 new, getting PC World to pricematch the Comet sale price. I think it's around £80 at a few places, still expensive of course.

If it wasnt for GOW2 and GHWT Id have this shoved on as been waiting for the install system for ages. I signed up straight away for the beta as was up when it went live but never got in. Hope I get into round 2 or better still make it an open beta!

The black 120GB hard drives on eBay... for around ?60 are they official? I'm guessing they're not and are 120gb drives fitted into a Xbox 360 HDD shell?

We won't actually know unless we crack open a drive. The seller claims they are from an Elite though, and £60 for an Elite drive is hardly an unrealistic price. That's about the price they go for at indie game stores. The fact that they come with no transfer cable and no packaging also implies they're from Elites.
