    The Boku no Natsuyasumi series

OK, I've always wanted to play one of these games and there seems to be quite a few people here who are knowledgeable about them so I'm looking for a list of which games there are in the series and which platforms they are on (and if they are remakes etc).

IIRC some are set in different time periods too so if anyone could clarify all that it would be much appreciated

    Theres 7 games in total.

PC, Boku no Natsuyasumi: Himitsu Taiken
Playstation 1, Boku no Natsuyasumi: Summer Holiday 20th Century
Playstation 2, Boku no Natsuyasumi 2
Playstation 3, Boku no Natsuyasumi 3
PSP, Boku no Natsuyasumi 4: Seitouchi Shounen Tanteidan, Boku to Himitsu no Chizu
PSP, Boku no Natsuyasumi Portable (Remake of PS1 version)
PSP, Boku no Natsuyasumi Portable 2: Nazo Nazo Shimai to Chinbotsusen no Himitsu (Remake of PS2 version)

I'd say PSP is best system to get to play most on, as they look lovely on that little screen.

Not sure on dates i'll check later if anyone hasn't answered by then but there are a few on here that are huge fans so they should know better than i do as im a relative newcommer to the series..

That's great, very helpful Which of the PSP ones would be best to start with or is it all dependant on which time period I would prefer?

Aren't 1, 2 and 3 all set in 1975? BnN3 on PS3 is set in 1975 - and the FAQ I read for... I think 2 said it was also set in 1975. Oddly enough, the PS3 has a fictional date. The 1st of August 1975 wasn't a Sunday, it was a Friday.

I'm guessing you saw it, but I'm doing diary entries for the 3rd. Three days posted so far. Got seven written up.

If you wanted an easy job of things though, both 1 and 2 have FAQs for them - I'm flying blind on 3, and it's only thanks to Playongo's videos that I knew about protecting the sparrows.

But really it's all just about having fun on your holiday.

The first has kite flying, and the second has bike riding, neither of which are in the 3rd, but there are other things.

        FUN TRIVIA:
One thing which I heard on another forum, is that in the PS1 version it was possible to glitch it to August 32nd, and keep playing, whereupon the NPCs would disappear and strange interdimensional-rift style visual glitches would occur, whereupon textures would start breaking down. There was a video on youtube, but it was taken down.

Managed to track down most dates,

          boku 1 aug 1975
          boku 2 aug 1975
          boku 3 (not sure)
          boku 4 1985

I started with boku 4 & i have ordered the other 2 psp games so i'll be working backwards. The third game i cant play unless i buy a ps3.

Theres a few great first play threads by Pharfetchd definately check them out.

Edit: Hehe beaten to it by sketcz, i read your first diary entry but it's dangerous reading as i really cant afford to be buying a ps3 for just one game LOL

Correct, and 4 is set in 1985, if your going to play only one then I'd personally go for Boku no Natsuyasumi 4, it's the most recent and because of that also has the most gameplay features, their all worth playing though, although without much of an understanding for the story it may seem like your playing the same game as last time, setting aside.

Theres also a PS2 spin off to the series called Bokura no Kazoku which involves you raising a family.

Only played the first PS1 game and the PS3 one, but can definitely recommend them. The PS3 one was easier for me to get into by far.

Good to see my PS3 copy went to a good home.

Still stuck on the 4th one no idea how to get that bridge repaired, but im making good progress with fishing & bug catching. Although i still need a big beetle to enter the tournament.

Went on a book binge managed to find the artbook for boku 1, well chuffed as that thing has been out of print for years.

Can't remember which one it is as there are bridge repair stories in both 3 & 4 but it's either

you need to use the planks of wood that are scattered about

, if it's not that then it's the one where you need to find

                  bricks to repair it

                    I picked up a
but i can't seem to do anything with it i have tried picking up each of the 4 in turn & none of them seem to do anything when i goto the bridge, maybe i need a tool or something. I got the screwdriver already from the toolbox but nothing else seems to be in there. Maybe it's too early to repair the bridge in the story?

Yeah you've jogged my memory now, you do have to wait for a certain day,

it's the 8th August to buy Nails from the backroom of the shop which you can use to fix the board down, I think you need an hammer from the toolbox as well

                      .

I ended up using this site as a guide for some stuff, it can be a bit jibberish when using translation tools but most of it makes sense

For those playing BnN3 and having trouble with the haiku's, I found this page:

I've been working on a few without it, and while they seem funny to me with my broken Japanese, haiku man kinda hates them... But I thought a poem about eating bugs was funny.

I'm playing BnN4 on PSP and I'm a bit stuck. I'm on about day 14. Done loads of fishing, swimming, collecting bugs. Got to a bit where I can play drums against someone which is cool but I'm running out of things to do. How do I do the beetle fighting bits? Also, I can't seem to find these
I apparently need to fix the
. And how do I play Qix? I have 35 (yen? coins? whatever) but I can only select 0 which I'm guessing is the amount of credits I want to put in. The other numbers are greyed out.
