Need For Speed: Shift 2 [PS3, 360, PC]

GamesRadar+ takes you closer to the games, movies and TV you love.

Not really suprising and I imagine we're quite some time off seeing it but I'm up for this. NFS Shift was a pleasant surprise that with some more variety could be very impressive.

    Fiscal Q4 2011 makes this Q1 2012 doesn't it?

Hmm... yeah, that'd be Jan-Mar 2012 which would be out of timing for the usual release window. It'll probably make a November release unless it would be coming out post-Xmas due to another release causing it to be delayed.

Hope this is playable, unlike the first one.

Can't see that happening, unless Criterion have two major teams at work on separate projects. Although I guess that's possible if EA have supplemented them with staff from other studios.

First one was perfectly playable if you adjusted the dedzone and sensitivity in the options. They shipped it with the settings a little messed up.

Nah, it was like driving on flat tyres.

yep, the game was bugged and broken in terms of tuning and car handling, but not unplayable. they patched the 360 version twice i think. just too late for me to keep up my initial enthusiasm. a pity as this was my game of the gamecom show last year. looking forward to the successor though as i hope they will be more careful this time.

One of the best racers in years... Even though it was broken! You had to work at it, but the racing in Shift was sublime. Such a shame it was released (and never patched properly) in such a state.

I couldn't have put it better myself, yet somehow I actually like the game

I think the whole cockpit and race experience is excellent and is more full on compared to the slightly sterile Forza 3 (which I think is great btw), but is terribly let down by the handling. You never really know how much grip you are going to have going into a corner and it feels like driving a shopping trolley sometimes. As Uli said, it's not totally unplayable but it does drag the whole game experience down a bit as a result.

I use the official xbox wheel and pedals and compared to Forza 3 and PGR4 it has the worst handling of the three. I will definately want to play the demo of the second one before buying, because if they haven't fixed the handling then I will stick with what I've got.

Like the first one up to a point. Really enjoyed racing a Lotus around and liked the almost TOCA-like close racing environment that most racers can't do. However once the cars got faster the whole thing went to pieces!
