I'm a gaming Dad. My 10-year-old isn't really into the same kinda games that I like, so we rarely play together locally, but we do play online together quite a lot. He's the only person I'd consider playing Biohazard 5 on professional difficulty with for instance. We also rank highly as a Ridge Racer 7 team.

He's big into playing GTA and COD style games online with his Xbox 360 friends, although he can quite easily sit and complete a Metal Slug game. I remember when the other kids at his school thought that he had made up MVS, Atomiswave and CPS-2 etc when I had all the JAMMA stuff.

He's owned every console that has been released since the original Xbox, and has all of the current gen consoles, but he gave the Wii to his Mom, and I'm not really sure what he's done with his DSi. He owns a Nintendo 64, which was given to him by someone, and he often asks about older stuff like Super Famicom. He is however quite knowledgeable on PC Engine as I still had my suitcase setup for some years after he was born.

We often visit Casino so he knows what an arcade is all about too. He knows what he's talking about when he goes to Gamestation or CEX. Rarely have I laughed at his choice of game when he comes home after conning my Sister or Mom into buying him something new.

Quite the gamer is my lad. He just needs to stop buying PAL stuff and then I'll actually like him

My Mom's from Mexico Sorrel. I've always said Mom. I used to get in trouble at school because of it. I even turn the U into an O on Birthday and Christmas cards and that.

My dad loves playing Hoyles cards on his PC but he has commandeered some of my games down the years. Off thetop of my head:

Leaderboard Golf - Amiga or C64 (can't remember)
            PGA Golf - Megadrive
            Sonic - Megadrive
            Gradius 3 - SNES
            Lotus Esprit Challenge - Amiga
Time Crisis (all of em, lol)
            Mario Kart 64
            Doom - PC
            Wii Sports/Play etc

There are a few others but they are mainly simple to play games he likes. He always snaffles my iPhone when i'm round though to play some of the puzzle games and tbf, he picks stuff up quickly for a typical 70 year old technophobe.

Reminds me of a Frasier episode where he's playing chess with his dad. I think he's buying PAL stuff for your sake, so that you don't worry he's trying to usurp you from your throne.

Same here, though my mum did enjoy watching me play Sherlock Homes on the Mega CD. My Uncle used to borrow my Intellivision and Mega Drive so he could play PGA GolfOther than that , My best mate Dad was addicted to the Desert Strike series on the Mega Drive. he Finished and completed them all .

It was funny as that was the only game he ever showed any interest in and loved them , though he still says to this day, how much he used to enjoy watching me and his son play NHL Hockey on the Mega Drive .

                Good times

My Mum still takes the piss out of me today, it's always the same one liner.

"Got any news games? Do they have "Grrreeeat Graphics."

Since she bought me my Zx spectrum with Saber Wolf, as each generation of system went by I used to try and get some kind of interest from her in games by stating that each new game had "Great Graphics."

As far as she was/is concerned they all looked the same.

Mind you, I love the fact that she paid ?250 for my birthday in 1989, purchasing a JAP Megadrive with Alex Kidd, GnG and Thunderforce II. I think I remember not just saying "Great Graphics Mum" but also "Look mum Parallax Scrolling Mum!" She didn't really understand, but I think it made her happy that I was digging the new console!

I used to get stick from my mum for something similar. Every time a new generation of consoles came out, i'd always say "this is amazing, it's the best thing ever! I'll never sell it!" Which was true, at least until the next new console came out. And every time she pulled me "I thought you said you'd never sell the one you have?" while laughing.

My Mom took the piss out of me when I said that games were cheating when I couldn't win. My boy says it too, and she takes the piss out of him also.

                        Games do cheat.

I'm glad he's a "normal" gamer TBH. Hopefully he'll grow out of it and get married and do normal people things when he grows up.
