The voice of Duke Nukem, John St. John, has confirmed that Valve is making Defense of the Ancients.

How does he know? He's just finished lending his voice to the title, that's how.

St. John poster on Twitter a few days ago:

"Had a great time in Seattle last week recording for DotA. The guys at Valve Software are awesome!"

DotA is a custom scenario for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, and tasks teams with the destruction of the opponents' heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map known as Ancients.

Players use heroes to complete the mission, levelling up and buying equipment along the way.

This is quite frankly awesome news.

DotA is a fun game, however it has a community that makes 4chan seem friendly and welcoming.

according to wikipedia the guy who developed the original mod did indeed join valve. Seeing as Valve have often hired community modders and made their mods into full games (team fortress, counterstrike, alien swarm, day of defeat) a dota release seems highly likely.

Edit: I'm wondering how similar this will be to the original mod. Obviously, all the warcraft art and sound will be removed. I'm hoping it plays as close to the original as possible. Did anyone ever play the original alien swarm? I'm curious as to how the Valve version compares to the mod.
