Toshiba announce their 'no glasses' 3D sets next week...
With Active Shutter technology you're just asking for headaches and eye strain...

        Ha ha

Yeah, I read up on Toshibas sets but they're likely to be expensive and flawed tech due to being 1st gen releases. I reckon it'll be 2012-2013 before they nail them and I'm not waiting 3 yrs to upgrade from a 19 inch set. Hell, they'll have probably invented holograph TV's or some such replacement by then at this rate

          Well I bought a 3DTV a few days ago......

and took it back the very following day.

Was playing Crysis and Gears, the sacrifice of the resolution and the framerate was just too much, I'd of rather played it perfectly smooth and at a much higher resolution.

Also, I had one of those passive LG model's which actually work really badly, you have to be perfectly eye level with the TV otherwise the stereo separation is borked and you get blurriness.

certain games also do 3D better then others, as I mentioned in the Shadow of the Colossus/Ico thread, the 3D really is amazing there...

This always interests me - what did you say when you took it back (unless you bought it online, then I understand)?

I have a passive Toshiba and so long as you are not sitting higher than the TV the 3D is perfect, even from the far sides, unlike with active. Passive does make some games look a little crap though, black ops sometimes looks like a ps2 game in 3D.

In my experience the 3D effect is most often dependent on the games settings than the TV, there's not too much out there that benefits from it though there are some good ones. After the move next year I'll be adding to my 3D with the new Samsung 3DTV that has a display with a clarity and back light that could outshine the light of Heaven

I got a 3D Panasonic plasma a month ago. To be honest, I love the 3D films, but have not been impressed by a majority of the games. The best 3D game I've played was Super Stardust which is amazing!, Killzone 3 was the next best, but that game suffered from ghosting in places, but looks pretty damn good still. Motorstorm Apocalypse is also pretty good.

I mainly bought the TV to replace my 26" LCD so the 3D was an added bonus. 3D sets are dirt cheap these days, worth getting one if your buying a new tv anyway.

I really want this 3D Vaio laptop I saw a couple of months back. The resolution and brightness were ****ing spot on from the real time demo I watched.

With the 3D display I picked up the other day I can finally add my thoughts here.

I love my 3DS. Granted, effects depends on what the developer decides and some games show it off much better than others (Pilotwings Resort being the best example of one extreme and Steel Diver the other).

So earlier I tried out 3D with my PS3, and naturally the first game was Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD
It was great, although the glasses did make my eyes hurt a tiny bit at first as I've always been sensitive to supposedly "faster than the eye" flickering. It also made me realise why the default brightness of the screen was so high and why I should leave it there.

After a quick bash on MHP3rdHD I went with Star Strike HD to see how that fared. And 40 minutes later I managed to tear myself away. Great effects, especially when your ship explodes!

For movies, the only 3D Bluray I have is Thor (because the 3D set was $2 more of something like that) and it works, only issue I had was how reflective the screen is means I end up watching myself watching the movie as well.

Overall, I do prefer the freedom of not wearing another pair of glasses over mine but for short stretches it's pretty cool.

Star Strike HD - is that Super Stardust over here? If so then I agree completely

My Dad now has a 55" passive and the effect is much more involving than it is on my 42" passive (of course it is still content dependant though!). Makes me think that a 3D projector would almost make 3D TVs seem like a waste of time but unfortunately one that would match my current 2D pj spec would set me back ?1000s, and I just can't justify it particularly when I much prefer passive glasses.

                            What Did I say?

I packaged it up and resealed the box and said I'd changed my mind
They'd of charged me 10% repacking fee if they thought I'd opened it....

I think half of it was down to it being on 360 which does literally half the resolution I was watching some 3d footage of the lion king in a store today on a passove screen and the reduction in resolution was quite noticeable.

I got a new TV the other day and as a bonus it supported 3D.
The free shutter glasses arrived today so I've been having a play, the shutter glasses are definately much better, the viewing angle not causing me a problem this time.

I'm still not 100% sold on the idea for games, although I actually like the increased natural look that spectroscopy can add, the reduction in image quality and frame rate does the exact opposite.

Anybody know of any games that are particularly good with 3D? I've been playing AC3 and Crysis today.
