    Updated 360 joypad

According to the UK Official Xbox Magazine, Microsoft are planning to release a new 360 pad with an improved D pad before Christmas. Details here.

" the controller will feature a new d-pad that raises a quarter of an inch when rotated ninety degrees."

So presumably it'll be the existing D-pad but with a long neck?

Wasn't sure if this was worthy of a new headline, but who cares eh? All the tech sites are carrying it so why not...

The D Pad is updated and transforms from this:

      to this:

      when you twist it.

Oh, and the ABXY buttons are now grey!?!? Weird.

9th November in USA... Feb next year in Europe?!?

Video of it "in action" here http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/...ing-d-pad.aspx

More importantly, is the D-Pad now on a roller base like the MegaDrive and Saturn ones?

So they couldn't include these D-Pads with the new 360S when they came out JUST LAST MONTH!?

            My thoughts exactly Elaniel.

            Also, isn't 65 dollars a bit pricey? :-S

The d-pad looks cool, don't like the grey buttons though...and why the hell is it white/grey anyway, the new consoles are black ffs!

It's also nice that a UK player will have a slight disadvantage using a normal controller over one of these "super controllers" unless you import.

According to the video that was for a pack including a plug and charge kit. Not sure how much those bundles usually retail for in the US but in the UK they're normally about £45.

Yeah, that doesn't make a huge amount of sense.

I'm not convinced that new D-pad is much cop. They released a 'revised' controller a couple years back with a supposedly 'improved' d-pad and that was every bit as **** as the original.

I don't think anyone whos serious about fighters or old arcade games would care about this, they all probably have a stick anyway including myself.

I suppose the cost comes largely from the fact that instead of just having an improved d-pad inside they allow people who buy the new controller to completely ignore the fact that they've bought the new controller with the improved d-pad.

It makes perfect sense that they're charging people that much to not have any improvement at all.

I really do like the look of it although I can't help but feel that if they just started making controllers with a decent d-pad instead of the current one that it would be a lot simpler.

The Vag also states that they are ONLY available with the play and charge kit, didn't he?

Right up until the video ended I thought he was going to power the pad up and the buttons would light up red, blue, yellow and green. Why dull greys? Does this company know it's arse from it's elbow...talk about product unity!

Which makes it fairly pricey if you're not bothered about/already have lots of batteries/charge leads. I would expect them to become available on their own (and in black) at some point but maybe that's too logical.

How exactly is it going to be better? The contacts on the PCB are still going to be activated the same whether it's in or out.

Why didn't they just release it with the d-pad permanently raised?
                            Kept you waiting, huh?

                              Who cares about the pad!

I'm more concerned on whether they fixed the 'slow directional creep to the left' which plagues all my 360 analog sticks after about a couple of weeks use from new
