Sony to reintroduce PS2 support on PS3 consoles?

Looks as if Sony are gearing towards releasing an attachment that allows any PS3 to play PS2 games. If this is true, so want.

I was wondering why the PS3 Slim still has the PS/PS2 Memory Card Utility on the XMB. I know PS games still work but they should have changed the description to remove PS2.

This idea is just daft. Attach a separate box to your PS3 so you can play PS2 games? It's not a great deal different from just plugging a separate PS2 into your telly.

edit - although... any chance of it being region free?

I guess a USB box is slightly less hassle though as you don't need another power socket/TV input, and I assume it'll upscale the games.

And my personal favourite you can use the dualshock 3 for them, I hate 3rd party controllers so I'll stick to wired on PS2.

It would be the only thing that'd truly make me buy a PS3, a new one at that.

If I could just buy a NEW Slim with BC built in, or at least a dongle that enabled backcat, I'd be OK...

I mean, the 360 BC is pretty crippled, you can't play the full gamut of the Xbox 1's software range, though you can play at least 87% of its 'games that mattered', but at least the games you CAN play, you can on ALL 360s.

It's f*cked, yet it's way better than the current PS3 situation, seeking out an old 60gb unit, scared to death it's gonna YLOD...

To me this feels like something they've mulled but aren't actually going to release. I mean, otherwise, they'd be damaging the sales of all these £25 PS2 collections they can now pump out

Agreed, a company like Sony files dozens of patents every year, can't see this ever being released. Other than us lot, do any ps3 owners in the real world care about bc anymore? I doubt it.
