I think too many developers are looking at Nintendo as a model for shipping out franchises, ignoring that Nintendo have a talent for picking 2nd party studios
It's not getting depressing, it's been depressing for the past five years already. There hasn't really been much to speak of coming out of Japan since the end of the PS2 - just a few minor blips.
What I don't understand is, what exactly is all that in-house talent doing now that all the big name projects are given away to 3rd parties? Are they all busy making games for the iPhone and the DS or something?
It's not even just that Japanese studios aren't doing their own work of course, FFXIII was a strong indicator that Square-Enix have lost their magic touch and they did that themselves.

All these generic looking games where everything is too shiny to show off some cool effect will never look as good as traditional art. No wonder we all like stuff like Odin Sphere and this growing pixel art scene.

When did Dante become emo? I've only played DMC1 up until a bit past a boss fight against this guy with a sword (I think) and the beginning of DMC2 but I didn't think he was emo at all. He wears funky garms but I think his lines are too cool to be emo.
Don't tell me in spite of that he is still emo. I'd have thought DMC3 Dante had the potential to be emo because he was younger, but that's it.
New Dante deffo looks emo to me, though. He looks like his mum makes his bed.
