    Dynasty Warriors 7 (Ps3)

    Dynasty Warriors 7 announced

PlayStation 3 News by Fred Dutton

Dynasty Warriors 7 is on its way and will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Tecmo Koei announced at the Tokyo Game Show.
The publisher failed to mention a release date for the latest game in its hack-and-slash franchise, or what it will add to the decade-old Dynasty Warriors formula.
Dynasty Warriors 6 came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008 and won a handsome 8/10 from Eurogamer on release.

What Koei kind of said is that the previous entries were crap and stripped of features because they were multiplatform. They promise lots of content because of Blu Ray. There is hoping.

6 was rubbish. Last decent one they did was probably Orochi 2 (and even then only after several patches to fix the framerate).

Doesn't seem to be PS3 exclusive anymore now.

From reading this it seems like they've abanadoned a lot of the changes made in 6 and gone back to the weapon setups etc... the characters had in the previous editions.

Cautiously optimistic that this might be worth getting (well, for fans anyway)

There's an achievement for a Three Kingdoms trivia quiz. Get in.

More info here. Does sound like they've backed out all the stuff I didn't like about 6. Seems more like 5 but with nicer visuals.

Yeah, that looks more like the game I know and love.

I find it hard to get excited about this after playing Sengoku Basara 3, DW seems so pedestrian now.

Not played anything more than demos of DW games before but that looked quite good. The characters seemed to be switching weapons mid combat and I noticed the voice actor of Bang from Blazblue.

Does anyone remember DW1? This series started out as 1 vs 1 fighting game like Soul Edge.

DW1 wasn't even part of the series in Japan. It's why the numbers on them are all one less over there...

Basara 3 is very good but this latest DW doesn't look to sloppy either. Series might be back on track.

Looking at the official site today, it does look like this kinda has both the normal story mode and also a kind of Empires mode all in the same game.

Yeah, I think I'll be day one on this.

Had a chance to play a promo copy of this for a couple of hours.

                          First impressions:

It plays like 5, not 6. The combo system is similar to the Orochi games.
It's easily the best warriors game in ages, better than the 3DS one (and that's pretty decent)
It has the visuals etc... of 6 (ie, vaguely this gen)
They've actually got *all* the pronunciation of the names right this time.

The 'story' mode isn't as full on as 5, where each character had their own story. Instead you chose a faction, and each level makes you play as a certain character. But the secondary 'conquest' mode lets you play as anyone you've unlocked.

DLC out for this on Live now.

Japanese language pack - free. HUGE download this one.
Dynasty Warriors 6 costumes - 80 points. Another fairly hefty download, so at least it's not stuff that was already on the disc.
Dynasty Warriors 1 costumes - 80 points. Think this was a pre-order bonus in Japan.
New conquest mode stage - 240 points. Meant to have three different missions on it, and new music as well. Seems a bit pricey though.
Two new weapons - 160 points. Completely new weapon types rather than just new ones for existing weapon types.

[EDIT] - link with some screenshots.

Quite a lot of DLC out there on this now. Lots of new weapons, costumes and a few new stages as well.

And there's an 'xtreme legends' build on the way. Not sure if it'll be available as a large DLC like the one for Samurai Warriors 2 was or not though.
