Do any of the Wolfenstein updates contain the original?

I fancy getting hold of Wolfenstein 3D, but if it's on one of the newer versions I'd rather get that.

No idea, probabaly not, but anyway I'm just gonna go slightly off topic and come out and say this...

The original is really poor and unlike Doom has aged badly to the point that its mind numbingly dull, and I didnt really like any of the later games in the series either.

If you need a new FPS there must be some better ones you havent played, for instance Singularity was a recent one that very few people seemed to have experienced and its absolubtley brilliant, probabaly cheap now too.

I thought it was mind numbingly dull when the snes version first came out.

I enjoyed Wolfenstein on the PS3, the modern one. Pretty decent tbh. Get that

I thought that was crap too, the levels were nearly as dull as the original and it featured a horrible and pointless central hub thing.

Personally I still love the original, yes the visuals are very samey and there's a few levels that could really do with in game maps but it runs real fast, lets you shoot loads of guys and features some truly awesome bosses. It's not included with the latest one but if you get it on PSN or XBLA it rewards you with extra cash in that game.

Hmmm, cheers anyway. I mean Doom 3 SE and the expansion had the first 2 Doom games and Quake 4 had Quake 2, so you'd think one or both would have the original...

I haven't played the original in ages, but I'm loving Doom 64 at the mo, final boss aside, and suspect I'd still like Wolfenstein 3D since I like my retro stuff, I could be wrong, but I'm willing to give it a go.

Just finished Doom 64 myself, great isn't it? Refreshingly oldskool. You should check out Hexen and Duke Nukem 64 for similar thrills. I will be

I loved the original Wolfie 3D. I finished all 6 episodes on the Acorn back in the day, and I enjoyed doing the same again on the 360 version.

Wolf 3D is included with Return To Castle Wolfenstein GOTY edition on PC, the full version including all the episodes. It's a great game, too. Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold is also dope.

Got Nukem 64 through the post today. Initial impessions are... piss poor. The Saturn version was a lot better, IIRC ? fullscreen for a start.

Aww that's a disappointment. They also censored a lot of it too didn't they? No strippers make me sad

Yes, they completely changed the pole dancing club to a truck loading bay for one of the early levels from what I remember. I did enjoy the audio for the plasma gun charging when played through a decent stereo.

I think the same about Wolfenstein as an earlier post, I don't find it all enjoyable to play now whereas I can still play Doom for hours.

Yeah, it is great, probably the 2nd best Doom game after the original for my money. How did you beat the end boss though? Killing all those monsters just to get killed in a few seconds by the end boss is getting a bit tiresome, and you don't really learn anything when you get killed that quickly...

I've already got Hexen and Duke Nukem 64, the latter's pretty decent from what I remember. I remember playing deathmatch against a mate with a few mates watching and firing a grenade into the room he was in, then watching his screen as he just stood there looking at the grenade. Then it blew up and killed him, it was well funny, one of my most memorable kills in any game ever, though you'd probably have to have been there.

I had a quick go on Hexen recently and it seems a very laudable port considering most of the reviews were mixed at best from memory, though the game doesn't seem to compare to Doom and you don't seem to be able to strafe which is just rubbish.

I didn't have enough space on my memory card to save it as it requires 90 blocks, so I ended my game sooner than I otherwise would, but it seemed pretty compelling and it's got 4 player co-op as well as deathmatch which is cool.
