This must have been covered a billion times already, but I'm old and my memory don't work so good no more...

Anyways, what are your favourite items from videogames? Which ones sucked or broke the game or failed to live up to the effort you put in to get it?

I've been playing Mass Effect 2 recently as that smiley bloke who always sees the good in people and maintains a sunny disposition even in the midst of intergalactic warfare and interspecies relationship woes. My paragon gauge is practically full to the brim of saintly blue pleasantness juice. Then an item called a 'Death Mask' came into my possession and the next thing I know I'm beating the living hell out of some restrained guy for information and acting all HENCH. I just find it impossible not to act all Vader with it on and my game seems to be taking a very dark turn. The voice is totally menacing too...thank god this thing doesn't exist in the real world!

Going back some years, I fell in love with the iron boots in Ocarina of Time (I doubt I'm alone on that one)...

Mounts (or their equivalent) in MMOs. The first 15 levels in City of Heroes before you got your movement augmentation were always utter hell, and levelling 40 levels in WoW before getting a mount (20 now) were torture. WoW even rubs it in by letting you fly through Outland and then grounding you once more once you hit Northrend*!.

* - unless you have fancy BoA stuff, of course. And I think they're opening it up to all soon.
