    Games you were wrong about

I thought we could use this thread as a 'confession box' of sorts. Have you been very vocal in slating a game only to enjoy it later? Come and have you sins absolved brothers! Me first:

I remember playing the Burnout Paradise demo and I hated it. I felt it stripped out a lot of the Burnout feel and I didn't feel comfortable with the open nature of the game.

Fast forward a year or two later and I picked up that Burnout Paradise/Trivial Pursuit double pack at a good price. I decided to try Burnout again since I had it and I really got into it. The game clicked with me and I often play it now, even more so than Revenge, which was my usual Burnout fix.

It's not often I do a complete U turn on a game, but I was completely wrong with my first impressions.

    I AM NEVER WRONG!!

    Nah, only joking.

Thinking about it - the one game that sticks out to me is Yakuza 3. I thought the demo was a hideous thing of hideous! Too difficult to get into and ugly graphics along with really boring combat.

Still, I bought the full version if only to show that gamers don't all want FPS reheats or racing games. So glad I did. The demo area was taken out of context of the main game and showed nothing of the story, characterisation or depth that I discovered in the full version.

Certainly one of the top 5 games I've played in 2010!!!

I thought the Bayonetta Demo was "meh". My GOTY 2010.

Dead Space, despised the demo so held off buying it until mid way through last year, and that was only after a friend of mine kept banging on about how fantastic it is.

I ended up loving the full game

          Batman AA

I literally had no will to buy the game, I just thought it was everyone fapping over it because it was Batman, but I bought the game cheap and it was one of the best games I've played this year. Awesomeness

            Split / Second.

Couldn't stand the demo and reading the 'First Play' came to the decision it was a turkey.

Decided to try the demo again recently and thought it was okay so picked up a copy cheap....how wrong was I? Best arcade racer I've played since Ridge Racer 7

            (online is dead though)

Splinter Cell: Conviction. Always thought of SC games as poor man's Metal Gear and thought Double Agent was abysmal so steered clear. Borrowed it from work over the summer and couldn't put it down!!

Online was dead because I was so bloody awesome at it everyone else gave up. Perhaps.

I think my biggest turnaround was on Metal Gear Solid 4. Hated it to begin with. Slated it online. Was fist pumping and practically jumping up and down on the sofa by the time the two naked guys were fighting on the submarine at the end. Admittedly, the last 30 minutes were tripe, but apart from that. I was wrong. I think I also posted some negative comments about Mass Effect 1 when I was about an hour in. When I get to St Peter and he's deciding which way to send me, I'm going to ask for a fortnight in hell to make up for criticising Mass Effect.

I actually thought the Nintendo DS would flop.

I'll need to check your times online to see how good you are, or think you are

Dead Space, RE5 and Borderlands I put off for ages but loved them all.
RE5 I especially didn't like after the demo.

Absolutely hated Demons Souls when i first bought the Korean version. I didn't have a clue what i was supposed to do and the initial difficulty allied to the stopping to have pots and no pause pissed me off, and i flogged it.

Forward to the US version and i thought i'd try it again. WHAT A GAME. Possibly one of the best games i have played in quite a while. Once you understand the mechanics and what to do, its awesome and actually not hard at all.

yeah i know what you mean there ...what always bugged me about it was that it was not really that hard a game its just the fact they didnt tell you any of the mechanics in the game or where to go and what to do

                              Escape from Monkey Island.

"Awesome, another Monkey Island game" I thought. I play it and there was SO much which made the previous 3 entries great completely missing in this one. When I thought there wouldn't be another I was disappointed to say the least that the series would go out on a damp squib The villain was TOTALLY forgettable, LeChuck had a bit part FFS, the comedy skull Murray had about 3 lines and when the game finally ended I just wasn't bothered, when the ending to 3 really got me and sucked me in.

Monkey Island 3 was the perfect conclusion to the series but I'm glad someone saw sense and released a 5th game which does justice to the name. Hopefully the same thing happens with the Indiana Jones franchise and that they hurry the **** up with a 5th to do away with the **** stain that was Crystal Skull before Harrison gets too old for it.
