Fancy yourself as the next Dante?

Little discussion topic for you. Would you welcome the facility to be able to "import" yourself into a game? I notice this is possible in Tiger Woods 2004 to an extent, but how about yourself as the main character instead of Dante in DMC3, or fighting Kasumi in DOA4? I think this idea will be incorporated into more and more games in the future, its natural progression. Do you feel this would enhance the games experience in any way?

Remember Corporation for the Amiga? If you sent the developers a picture of yourself, they'd send you a data disk back with a personalised avatar for the game.

I have no real interest in this at all. It might be fun for lan play in something like Quake III (when opponents know what you look like), but for an offline title I really don't see the point. I'm not that narcissistic. Besides, a well designed main character like Dante is going to look a lot better than my face wrapped round a generic 3D model.

For any multiplayer/online game this would be magic. Imagine being in a team in Ghost Recon where everyone looked like they should.

I was gutted when Rare cut the option out of Perfect Dark .

You could do this in operation flashpoint on the PC, very funny when multiplaying on a lan with all your mates.....

You had a special face that you could overlay a few pictures over... one from the front and one from the side. You could edit it and it would then do the wraping for you. You could add glasses after...

I think i still got the virtual me somewhere

My face is scary enough without being digitised thanks. And they'd have to have a short, fat character model.

Oh yes, that'd be sweet. Maybe not my face though but just that level of customisation would be cool.

              Depends on the game....

In general (so need to go off on one anybody), Jap games have a strong(ish) lead character and so you are them. In western games, the characterisation is weaker and they are you.

So in sports games like golfage etc its good. And it'd work in a lot of western games. But not in most of the top tier Japanese games IMHO.

They had no choice - US parent groups got them to remove the feature as you could easily simulate shooting people in the face such as your teachers or school friends. I found that unfair as it'd been possible to 'skin' yourself onto PC FPS games for many years previous.

Edge were given a demonstration of the full working sub-section on one of their visits, so the above isn't an excuse for not getting it to work.

You just can't beat unloading a full magazine into a head on PD" - watching it bounce like a punch-ball is so satisfying. It'd be even better if it was a friends.

Deff. the most realistic facial in any gun related game.

As much as this may suprise people, I actually look distinctly less cool than Dante Guess I'd prefer to use him than me in DMC3.

It'd be cool to put people into Rocky or something and mash their faces.

I managed to tweak the custom skater in THPS4 to look a heck of a lot like me, insomuch that my brother's friend thought that I was an unlockable character

It's definitely a good feature in sports games, although yeah, in a character driven game, it could be quite odd. Although... in something like KotOR, where the personality of the lead character is defined by the player, it could work well. Maybe in Harvest Moon (chibi Magnakai!! ), or any game where the main character is just a human avatar.

Part of the reason I play games is due to escapism. So no, I don't think I'd want to look at myself on the screen.

That's a good point. Whenever I play Japanese RPG's I tend to leave the character's names alone. I wouldn't want to change the look of the characters either (unless they were Blinx ).

I was aware of the issues surrounding the removal of the option from PD. It's just a shame imo that Rare caved into pressure.

                          Exactamundo!

One of my very first posts on the old Ikonboard (the first ever internet board I perused too) was about how I like games for their escapism. In story led games, iff I were to be one of the characters, then I'd enjoy it less. If it was a multiplayer game then, yes, I think it's an ace idea for the other players to be able to see who they were up against.
