    RPG Advice

I'm not really an RPG expert. I have enjoyed the few I have played. The last I completed was Shining Force 2 on the Megadrive (see thats old!) and I loved that although I must admit the random battles did get to me a bit in the end.

I have liked the look of a few RPGs on the Cube and wondered if anyone could advise me as to how they play or how they are supposed to play and if they are similar to the Shining Force style of play!

    Right...

Skies of Arcadia Legends, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Giftpia, Paper Mario GC (no details known but assume its like the N64 version).

(I realise this could go into Questions and Advice but I thought it was more of a discussion of RPGs)

Skies of Arcadia Legends is really good, even if you've played the Dreamcast original (I did) but has a lot of random battles that are slow and take a lot of time to finish

I'd prolly go as far to say there has been nothing close to the Shining Force series for a while.

The new set of tactical rpgs dont give the same feel as it did to wander round like in shining force, or maybe thats just me....

For RPGs at the moment it has to be PS2 imho:

        Suikoden 3
        Xenosaga
        Final Fantasy....

        etc etc

Indeed. If you're looking for that SF magic on the gamecube, you'd be disappointed. Nothing else really like it, BUT you owe yourself to get Disgaea on US PS2 for some great tactical fun.

PS2 is where all the great RPGs are, and that wont change.

PS: maybe you should pick up a cheap saturn and Shining Force 3 episode 1. One of the best RPGs I've played.

Change all to most and you'd be right.

Well, the only one that you can really play right now is Skies Of Arcadia, which someone commented on. There's also a review on this site, in the Gamecube section, and one in the Dreamcast section, for the original Dreamcast version, which I had, and which was excellent.
Considering that the Gamecube one's meant to be even better (tuned down the random battles, added stuff) I'd definitely recommend it.

                However, it's not a lot like SF2

Of the ones you commented on, the others either aren't out in English, or just plain aren't out yet. And as far as I know... Paper Mario GC is just a rumour...

Giftpia will probably be good when it hits. But sadly as others have said so well the cube is devoid of RPGs.

                  PS2 owns the RPG market.

Lost Kingdoms 1 and 2 are worth a try. Little different to the other RPG's out there, card battling etc.

Snes still 'owns' the RPG genre - start with the classics before going onto some of the lesser titles released today

If you like RPG's with a good story and atmosphere, then Final Fantasy 7 has to rank up there as one of the best. I have such great memories of that game...

In fact, FF8, 9 and 10 are all great fun, though some would say they lack substance, you're likely to have a great time with them. Golden Sun 1 and 2 on the GBA are also really good, and you owe it to yourself to get Zelda on the GC (though I'm not sure whether it's classed as an RPG tbh).
