    iCade - iPad Arcade Cabinet

Not sure if this is a news, banter, iPad or retro thread item, so move it mods if needs be.

I think this was originally an April Fool joke on ThinkGeek.com, but it proved so popular that it's actually going into production.

Or they could still be lying to my curmudgeoning face.

    April Fool mockup:

    Actual Version:

Are these people still yanking my crank?

I shouldn't want one because it's pointless, really, but I do. Prefer the original 'joke' design, though.

That would be great for all the lovely shooters on iOS. Shame the games require coding to support it. Might not be too much support from developers.
I wonder what make of stick and buttons it uses.

Finally a wife friendly cab! Just a shame you can't put MAME on the iPad!

I wonder when the "sanwa/seimitsu parts or gtfo" crew are going to arrive in this thread lol

I want one. But Cave would need to add an auto-fire 'off' option to their games for button bashing joy. It would also be the perfect machine to play stuff like Pac-Man (which is imo totally unplayable on a touchscreen, forget cornering) on.

How could that even work? all Ipad games are touch screen based and the crontrols arent attached to the screen in any way that I can see.

The controls connect over Bluetooth. They are going to be a bunch of games available at launch from a partnership with Atari, presumably arcade rereleases like Asteroid and the API will be available to devs to make their games compatible.

It would be cool if it took off.

In the same way you can connect a wiimote via blutooth to play, the games just need to support it.

                          Barely any do.
