Looks like Sega are going with the freemium model Don't like the sound of microtransactions.

Freemium model? That could be me potentially out.

Would you rather pay a sub?

Yeah I would. Freemium just opens up a system where people can pay their way to greatness rather than playing.
I'm also not interested in paying premium prices for the rare gear when really it should be major drops.

I know that a lot of that depends on how Sega implement their freemium model - but I'm a little sceptical of freemium that's all.

Yeah, I'd rather pay a sub too. Freemium models just result in a situation where richer players can just buy all the best items, and gaining these items the 'proper' way is made even more of a grind in order to encourage you to spend money.

freemium ultimately = bad players with good gear

They already said it will be cosmetic items, just like Guild Wars 2. Not that I agree with it, I just think going into a dungeon and killing a boss to get something cool is a much better experiance to going to the store and buying it.

I think they are trying to emulate the model Blizzard are going for with Diablo 3, which is actually great if the game is going to be as deep as Diablo. Which I doubt.

When you have a game that requires knowledge, skill and patience, throwing great gear into the mix only helps a tiny bit, as bad players will always be bad players no matter how much money they spend. This was highlighted in FFXI and WoW, terrible people with obviously paid for gear stood out like sore thumbs and were outed after two or three batches of enemies, whereas the good players with terrible gear are always welcomed into good guilds and provided help in gearing up and progression. With PSO however, where the system is a simple matter of spamming attack and then spamming potion once in a while it's going to be much harder spotting the baddies. I don't think this game is going to benefit from a real money auction house or whatever.

If this only applies to aesthetic items then that's fair enough.

What I'm more concerned about is the community, as fun as PSU was hardly anybody stuck with it past the beta which was a real shame. I'm guessing the same will happen with this. Tons of forum talk not backed up at all.

With PSU though, tons of people just migrated back to PSOBB, myself included.

Is there such thing as a bad player in PSO? It's pretty much all about how long you've been playing more than anything else.

                          That's my point.

On the other hand I'm all for real money auction houses and such, I can legitimately sell off any good stuff I don't need for a little bit of money and the developer takes a small cut to maintain their servers without me worrying about subscriptions. I really don't think this game can benefit from something like this though, that is if you can buy performance enhancing gear, which hasn't been confirmed yet.

Just downloaded the character creator for this, seems pretty cool with a lot of choice and some good looking classes. There is a benchmarker program in it as well to see how well it may run when it is released.

I tried it max settting "5"?, res @ 1680x1050 and got a score of 01525 ...not that I would run it at that res anyway. I tried it at a lower res and got something like 08054.

My PC spec is 8g RAM, Phenom 2 x3, Radeon 4800 HD, hardly cutting edge lol.

Looks reasonable, typical Sega though, pretty basic textures, but I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as it plays like the older ones. PSO has definately got a certain charm about it's graphics, so no worries from me.

Link taken from psoworld..Japanese language of course.
