    Breach

I was sure there was a thread about this already, but the Search can't pick it up....

Coming out on the 26th! 1200 points. Fully destructible scenery, and not in the BC2 way. Cover mode. Could be astonishing. For me, physics based destruction is a Next Gen feature, I've felt that if a console has the power to do it well we'd have a new breed of revolutionary FPS titles, so excited that a title this gen has it in.

Will still demo it before buying though.

These destruction type things in VS games are fun (BC, Red Faction), but in my experience only make things fun for about 5 minutes.
Game starts, everything gets destroyed, then it's all a bit pointless. There is another set of design obstacles that have yet to be overcome when you give the players this facility.

Could be good fun though (for 5 minutes) I'll have to give the demo a go.

I'm embargoed up the wazoo about this (worst I'm playing the game early post evar!) I'll have a review ready to go on Console Arcade first thing Wednesday for anyone who gives a crap what I think.

        Not even a hint?

Boris, this looks to have more thought in it than something like Red Faction. The physics look far superior. Ultimately, I'd be more than happy with BC2 with realistic destruction. That works very well, because you're outside (ie not in a tunnel) and the cover / buildings you use get demolished. Once you put people in an area where everything can be destroyed (back to the tunnel again), it gets silly. Also, not over powering the weapons is the best way to balance things.

In BC2, the props last a decent enough time to be useful, yet show an evolving battlefield. At no stage would something come down and block a tunnel so you couldn't carry on through a level any further. There are still some clipping issues here and there, but it's the best example of making a decent rule set with destruction I've seen yet.

Found it. Bort posted a bit about it in the XBLA discussion thread:

I just watched the Giant Bomb QuickLook and thought it looked fairly average, might give the demo a go though.

Life's a Breach...and then your teammate blows up the bridge you were on.

                        Something of note:

                          Tee hee

To be fair he plants a rocket right in my face later on to make up for it (and then falls to his death ).

He’s just getting me back for knifing him in the back of the head a few nights before this was filmed Which means so far in my online career I’ve teabagged a Frag Doll and shot one of the better video game journo’s in the face.

It’s very surreal seeing it all played back through someone else's view though - it's like the ultimate killcam.

The game is getting really mixed reviews / opinions and I think the reason for that is because it takes a while to grow on you. It isn't until you start getting into the ebb and flow of games that it starts to become a lot of fun.

That said, it does seem to be suffering from quite a lot of lag - that wasn't present in the games I played at all because it was the Atomic staffers who were hosting. It looks as if without dedicated servers the lag becomes an issue.
