    R: Racing Evolution stress meter

I found this interesting tidbit about the AI in Namco's R: Racing Evolution. Apparently if you follow the same car for a while the driver will get stressed out and lose control a bit.

What we're impressed by is the pressure/stress meter that affects both computer-controlled cars and the player--not unlike it does on the real track. Follow an AI-controlled car long enough and a meter will appear above the vehicle. That meter beings as a black, empty, meter, but as you tail the car ahead of you, the meter fills up from the left to right going from blue to yellow to red and finally to a flashing mode. As the meter builds the AI's pressure or stress level increases leading the virtual driver to potentially mess up and let you pass.
If this is implemented correctly, this could the best new addition to racing games we have seen in a long time. Obviously in an arcade racer this would be a bit stupid, but R: Racing is more of a sim and sometimes when I play GT3 I find it's simply impossible to overtake... we're both driving perfectly, but because of car capabilities the CPU is constantly ahead. This could add an interesting twist to races. Hopefully the meter is easy on the eye.

I played it and thought it was alittle like GT at first, but not to worry I found it more interesting than GT in the short time I played it.
Though with no doubt it's nothing like a ridge game before and "simish"
in it's style. Think of Rage Racer but more deep

This is interesting, cos for example whenever I go karting and someone is hassling me, I always make mistakes, but as soon as they go past, I'm all over them causing them to make mistakes. It makes sense.

Do you do karting as a hobby? (Asking because I went proper Kart racing for 5 years).

This is a great feature though. This definately adds more 'realism' to the experience. Why, when I was a racer you had to learn not to make mistakes when dueling for the lead.

I wish I still went karting

That sounds good. Do you know what the music was like? Did it have lots of 'techno' like the Ridge Racer games? I'm hoping they don't get tempted by a licensed soundtrack...

I thought it was very dance based, although it was hard to hear anything while playing it !
