Steam problems

I've been downloading Far Cry 2 through Steam, it had nearly finished, I played Braid for a bit, then checked on it... I'm not sure if it said 2 minutes to go at first or if I just misread it, but then it said over 3 hours to go and i realised it had somehow reset to only 500 megs, losing me the best part of 3 gigs of progress - well annoying.

Anyone else had this, know how it could have happened? I'm new to Steam, but it seems rather rubbish to be, this incident that is.

If it has DLC as part of the package sometimes it will download it in segments and not necessarily in the right order.
