    DS games for a toddler

I've bought my little girl a pink DS Lite for her upcoming 3rd birthday pressie along with the Peppa Pig game!

I wondered if any of you guys could recommend any other games which might suit her? I am out of my depth here!

"I did it Mum" is a good one. I think they released two games in the series.

There's a very good Hello Kitty game that has loads of games and the great thing about it is that it tells you in clear speech what you have to do. None of the games are too hard as to frustrate but there's actually a bit of a learning curve to some (for toddlers, I kick ass at it) so it's one that can be pulled out again a few months later and there's renewed interest.

It's the Happy Party with Hello Kitty and Friends one. There are other Hello Kitty games but I don't know what they're like.

I'm not sure but I would NOT recommend the Tinkerbell game. It looks appealing but then its got loads and loads of text to go through - basically just like lots of RPG fetch quests with lots of dialogue to read through for them.

my 4 year old nephew loves Toy Story 3.....spends most of his time laughing and putting coins in the money bank on the touch screen with his finger

Yep the Hello Kitty one is good, but might be a bit too advanced for someone just turning 3.

Tinkerbell is a bit of a nightmare. My 5 year old keeps asking for help...arrrrggghhhhh

Yes, I'll third the Tinkerbell comments. Way too complicated. You could be right about Hello Kitty, Bob, but my girl wasn't much more than three (in fact it may have been her third birthday) and, while she couldn't do them all initially, she sort of grew with the game.

But, to be honest, the car wash game on the Peppa game is all you need. Then move to pancake flipping.

Edit: Oh and let's not forget the genius that is happy mrs. chicken.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I read some Amazon reviews and I think I'll also get "I did it Mum: Girls" to go with this. Looks like a winner!

What a lucky girl, I had to wait until I was 9 or so before I got a crappy Philips Videopac lol

Report back how it goes! And word to the wise, watch her like a hawk for a bit, they tend to think anything can be a stylus if they cannot find one!

My eldest bought a DS lite and donated her old DS Phat to my youngest, about 3 years at the time. Over time the DS stylus holder at the back becomes very loose and is prone to falling out and getting lost. My 3 year old decided one day because she couldn't find the stylus she would take a hairclip out of her hair and use that instead.

Needless to say she absolutely mashed and destroyed the touch screen! She is 5 now and has a DS Lite and has learnt the lesson!

How about Dragon Quest IX: it's all about dressing up, according to recent marketting campaign! (I jest)

Can't believe no one's recommended Nintendogs.

If you have a slot1 card, there's a great homebrew drawing game called Colors. My 4 year old spends lots of time writing (sort of) and using the keypad in the chat thingy that's built into the DS.

Here's the problem with Nintendogs - in a toddler environment and with a toddler's speech, the microphone stuff rarely registers. And, weirdly, there seems no way out of it except for a restart if it won't register the voice (like in a car you don't stand a chance). So, while my girl loves it, she soon finds a way of activating the mic and it leads to frustrations.

Getting the dog to recognize even adult voices in a quiet environment is hard enough, I concede. but there are other things to do with the dog, like grooming, walking, playing, competitions, etc.

Nintendogs for a 3 year old is a no-go! I've lived through that pain. Twice!
