Analyst predicting E3 Wii 2 announcement

It'll be interesting to see what direction they take when they do bring out 'Wii2', with Sony and Microsoft now having motion controls that will no doubt be standard for the next gen...

It's a pretty dumb prediction as usual by the analysts considering they've all but said that there will be no announcements regarding a successor to the Wii. In the new IGN interviews Reggie has clearly stated that Nintendo's 2011 plan is to focus on the 3DS now, then refocus on the Wii in the autumn before the christmas push. Bare minimum time frames would mean an E3 2012 reveal with a Christmas 2012 release at the earliest. And without any shadow of a doubt it will have a new unique function and be of PS3 power levels (which everyone will complain about not being next-gen enough).

I could see a late Autumn/early winter reveal at the absolute earliest but E3? Not a chance, it would clearly harm the 3DS.

I'm note entirely convinced about the Wii getting a second wind. The console is stagnating hard at the moment, outside of Zelda, there's next to nothing to look forward to as a western gamer. Even Zelda isn't getting the mega hype a Zelda title usually gets.

Last Story and Xenoblade could come out over here but it would be a concession to the hardcore gamer. Those titles would both die a death like other RPGs on the console released in the west have.

The only distant prospect is DQX but... nothing has been shown of it at all since it was announced over 2 years ago. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it switched to the 3DS.

I'd be happy for now if they just issued a firmware update to remove the flicker filter. It just makes everything look horribly blurry.

They say they always make DQ for the most popular console, so the 3DS wouldn't fit that bill any time soon...

While I think Nintendo have a new console as good as finished, I doubt we will see any of it this year. They have clearly pushed Zelda back to make it this years big Wii title, would be silly to undermine that title (as it isn't released before E3) with this sort of announcement. Unless they wanna go the Twilight Princess route: delaying it another 6 months and making it a launch title for Wii 2.

Why have a Zelda for a new console launch when you can just re-hash an old one? surely that is the Nintendo way?
Wii 2 (WII as I like to call it) plus OOT remake for launch= mega fanboy bucks.
Seriously though Wii 2 'announcement' will happen this year, It is inevitable Mr. Anderson.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they did that... Though presumably there will be a decent jump in power this time! Which would complicate matters.
