Rocksmith [PS3/PC/360]

These music games have understandably died off recently, I have to admit that this caught my attention when I saw it a few days ago.

Paris, France – March 15, 2011 – Today, Ubisoft announced the development of Rocksmith, a new video game franchise that is set to revolutionize the music genre. Rocksmith is the first and only game where players can plug any real guitar with a standard quarter-inch input jack into an Xbox 360? video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, a PlayStation?3 computer entertainment system or PC, and play through an in-depth library of music including everything from the latest hits to classic rock songs.

Featuring gameplay that automatically adjusts to the player’s skill level and innovative game design that makes reading music visually fun and intuitive, Rocksmith engages experienced musicians and those who are picking up a guitar for the first time. The game includes a sizeable library of music from classic rock bands to current artists, such as The Animals, The Black Keys, David Bowie, Interpol, Nirvana, and The Rolling Stones.

“Rocksmith is the most authentic and addicting music game ever created,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft U.S. “Whether a beginner or a seasoned guitar vet, players progress at their own speed and walk away from the game with the ability to play songs by memory. Rocksmith is the only video game that getsplayers stage ready.”

There's not that much known about it at the moment so it's difficult to know what to expect really.

I've been keeping my eye on this but there still isn't that much information apart from a release date of "Fall 2011" which possibly means "Easter 2012".

A brief video from an event in Texas which shows a slightly different on screen interface from what was shown previously.


One of the main things for me will be how they manage to combine the guitar tutor and guitar game side of things, if they get the balance right this could be perfect for somebody like me who wants a little more than just a game.

Time for a bump on this one - console launch is October 18th (11 days time).

Radiohead's Bodysnatchers and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird are preorder bonuses, apparently.

Some of the guitar forums are starting to show a little anticipation.

Ubisoft hired me to play the game for 8 hours (though I only got to play "Rebel Rebel" and a song by a band called Red Fang), and I can verify that it's both fun and educational. I'd definitely get it if I had a PS or Xbox. (quote is link)

Ah! Apparently you're right. That would explain why I couldn't find it at Game.co.uk and why it's just a placeholder on Play.com.

Not really a problem to import, though, eh?
