They call it perceived value. The idea that if it's cheap it must be rubbish.

The human brain is a bloody annoying thing to have to deal with when you're trying to sell something.

Didn't notice this thread somehow but now that I have I feel compelled to respond.

In terms of which console will win I have no doubts the 3DS will destroy the NGP in just about every way possible, due to the success of the NDS and Wii. Personally though I think both consoles will be a success in terms of profit, and to ditto the comments that state theres room for both machines.

Personally though im extremely disappointed with the machine as i've said before. Quite frankly the machine has so far shown itself to be nothing more then a gimmick in every way, bad 3D that simply looks dreadful next to true stereoscopic 3D, not to mention unless your playing a game that doesn't use the buttons the 3D effect disappears when you move the machine slightly. The actual button layout and design is such an after thought it gives you hand cramp after about 10 minutes and the screen is so low res that mid-range mobile phones look better. Finally whilst im ranting the machine lacks value for me especially with games at the RRP of ?39.99 thats full price! and considering the nature of the machines power I cant see how thats justifiable especially considering things like PSN, XBLA and iOS and their respective pricing structures.

That said, Nintendo always manage to make something that makes me enjoy their machines and I have no doubt I'll enjoy some first party titles that will make me glad I own the machine.

As for the NGP well little is known about the machine but to sum up my feelings on it i'd simply say it has some major potential. Imagine the ability to play a game on your PS3 and carry on exactly where you left off on your NGP while your out? Or have full access to PSN and be able to download and play some PSN titles. Also the side features could make the machine more worthwhile as you could potentially have an internet browser that SUPPORTS FLASH! and even potentially have access to Android market place, with its wealth of useful apps and games.

Course, I feel pricing could be an issue and thats where I hope Sony dont get too carried away. Perhaps pack in a Dual Shock 3 and give the machine HDMI out and maybe sell it as a Handheld/Console hybrid? I'm not sure.

To sum though, im obviously quite dissapointed with the 3DS and have high hopes for the NGP of course though it wouldnt be unlike Sony to let me down. Fingers crossed...

Thing is the 3D is subjective on the 3DS. My eyes perceive it's 3D effect as being far more effective than stereoscopics cheesy effect. I prefer the clear depth of field to the usual 'oo! A ball flew out the screen' effect we get usually however that's not so much a hardware fault. I find the screen is fine as well, more so in 3D mode where the res is higher. Game prices are way too high though and hopefully they'll fall with the arrival of competition as it has the potential to break the 1st party track record if utilised properly

The whole game continuing thing on PSP2 isn't going to happen. People aren't going to buy 2 copies of a game and publishers aren't going to include 2 copies for ?40. Plus the PSP2 lacks the required memory to practically do it. As much as the 3DS is a jazzed up NDS, the PSP2 will just be a jazzed up PSP. For core gamers I think the system is the first to potentially offer the home experiences on the move we've craved for ages but I think a lot of people are hoping for more than the COD, GOW and DJ Max playing device we'll realistically get.

Does GOW stand for Gears of War? If so, I take it you mean capable of playing it and not actually getting it. Unless I've missed some news on the subject!

God Of War I should think. God of War was out before Gears so deserves the use of the abbreviation.

The 3d effect on the 3ds is the best I have ever seen. Surpassing the stuff I've seen at the cinema and 3d PC and PS3 games by some way.

I think both systems will do well in different markets and both will have games coming out for them to justify owning both handhelds. I haven't got a 3ds yet but I'm just waiting for the likes of Zelda oot, etc to come out, then I'll bite.

Of course! I forgot about that. Yeah, I think the 3D stands up well to the cinema too. Are you planning on getting the NGP?

NGP has twin sticks, which means COD, which means win.
                    Kept you waiting, huh?

Yep. I predict a better launch lineup than 3ds too.

Gears of War abbreviates to 'Gears' round our way...

I'm expecting a worse one, Sony do not do good launch line ups

Nobody who has just blown ?200+ pounds on the console is openly going to admit in the first 10 days they made a mistake so id say your opinion is rather rosy. Low sales figures (not low but what 50,000 less than expected) numerous complaints/faults. Poor launch line up. Only yesterday i was walking through the warehouse where the 3DS are kept in our store, i asked the Home and leisure bloke if we had sold any this week. "No but we have had two returns from pre-orders" ..... says it all, not sold a single unit since launch day. Got loads of them in the warehouse.
