    Rugby World Cup 2011 [PS3/360]

Not really a surprise as there was job listings for it a while ago but it's been announced now.

I seem to have been waiting ages for the announcement and I remember MarioMark was after a new rugby game.

The only possible issue so far is that it's being developed by HB Studios who produced EA's rugby games. They weren't bad but they were a long way from what they should have been but I always felt that was more down to EA just wanting another officially licensed game in the shops irrelevant of the quality.

They always felt rough and quite cheap in comparison to the massively funded Madden games. It'll be interesting to see what the new publisher and license holder will be able to do with this.

It's been four years since the last game and I know that there's been a lot of people waiting for this announcement.

The job listing at HB Studios made it sound like they were developing a game featuring national teams but they've mentioned this featuring 20 teams so it looks like it will only contain the 20 qualifying World Cup nations.

    POOL D

With a bit of luck it will sell well enough to persuade them to produce a national version with the each region's cups & leagues.

Anyway, whatever it features it's likely to be a day one purchase on 26th August for me.

problem historically with rugby games is the low budget/low sales and lack of yearly iteration, for all the faults of the annual franchise it does allow a dev to get a head of steam up and finesse the mechanics of a sports game.
