Dead Rising 2: Off the Record

The same studio that did the second game, is now giving us a new game set in that same city. Only this time you're playing as Frank West again. The camera features are back and it's a full disc-based release.

    Impressions from Eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...record-preview

Without knowing much about what's different about it, I think this sounds like something that should have been included as a separate mode in DR2. But as I like the series very much, I will probably pick it up anyway.

Capcom in "Oh my ****ing God, stuff that would pass very easily as DLC made into full sold-at-retail product" shocker!

Will this set one back upwards of 20 quid? I'd much rather stick with Chuck and his beating **** up as means of earning EXP.

What is this I don't even...

Poor Dead Rising 2. It really was shoved out there with them having no overall idea of what they were doing with the IP and this sort of thing is really indicative of how lost and confused Capcom seem to have become this gen.

First thing I asked when I saw this.
Capcom why do you suck so much now?
End of trailer when Frank says I'm back in the game, super cringe.

This bit sums it all up to me

The game's origin is noteworthy, too. When working on Dead Rising 2, Blue Castle had plans for a director's cut. But then came the fan reaction to the announcement of Chuck Greene as the lead character. Leigh says all the questions about Frank West's whereabouts created "an extremely interesting opportunity".
"Rather than do a director's cut," he explains, "what would happen if we re-imaged the Fortune City outbreak with Frank West in the title role?" The development team, once presented with the idea, ran with it. The result is not a director's cut, but a "fan's version" of Dead Rising 2.
Translates to me roughly as, "what if we all go to our happy place and pretend that the second game never happened..."

Are they really saying that they saw the reaction about Frank and deciced that they could cash on it?

There's no real reason for this game to exist if they'd not thrown the second one together. After all it has no real plot (all those days / chapters and nothing really happens) it had bits ripped out of it so they could put out Case West on XBLA (it's blatantly the overtime mode that was originally intended to be included) and now there's this... full priced retail game not DLC??!! A game which reuses most of the assets, apparently for fans, but which seems to follow the same storyline so you already know who the villains are and renders it a bit pointless unless you have a massive boner for more Frank.

I can only gather that they were extremely unhappy with the way 2 sold, and so are looking for a do-over.

AND IT'S MADE ME GO ALL RANTY!!! WARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

After finishing DR2 which, though absolutely uninspired and pretty lazy, I certainly enjoyed, I bought Case West. It is, without a doubt, one of the most boring expansions I have ever seen. It basically took DR2 and transplanted it into a small enclosed environment that seemed designed to be as absolutely mind-numbingly boring as possible. The small location in Case Zero was so, so much more interesting.

So Case West sort of killed the bit of goodwill I had for DR2.

And this? Well, it might well be better than DR2. But, from what I can gather, it's little more than a DR2 remix going full retail, hoping that the character of Frank West alone will be enough to hook people. It won't for me, unfortunately.

I agree some of the missions are a bit mundane in DR2 that I have done. They need to add a save function in the pause menu for a start for me. I'm half way through DR2 and although enjoying it some of the Psychos are annoying when you have to trapes back to a save.

I found the trailer very werd for this. So it's DR2 plus Frank!?!

              Weird trailer here

I think is what they were talking about when the hinted they were going to 'revisit a franchise'.

It's a weird one and no mistake.

The idea of a "What would Frank have done?" game sounds fantastic. The second was a hoot so more of it is a great thing.

DR2 sold pretty damn well so it can't be that.

According to vgchartz (which I agree isn't the be all and end all of game sales) the 360 original did 2.1 million copies. All three versions of DR2 sold around 2.2 million combined. Still a very good amount but maybe not as much as they hoped for given the sales of the single format original?
