Pikmin 3 Coming to Wii U

Pikmin has now moved from being a Wii title to a Wii U title, when Miyamoto saw the power of the Wii U he wanted to use it for Pikmin. Also because it was due this year (ie far along) it's hinted to be coming either on or very close to launch. (Like Pikmin 1!) YAY I say I've been waiting for these games for years! A new Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion 2 all in one day... I've missed you Nintendo.

A Pikmin game has long been in development for the Wii. Well, it's not anymore, as Nintendo has announced that the game is instead going to be released on the Wii U.

He made noises about a new Pikmin when both the Wii and the 3DS were launched too...

Hope they do a pikmin 3d fairly soon too, although if the wii u is as powerful as rumoured then pikmin will look insanely good- I still think pikmin 2 looks amazing at 480p.

Fantastic news. Indeed I might have to buy yet another Wii for this as my love for Pikmin is unbridled.

I've never played a Pikmin game, but from what I can make out, do you assign jobs to people based purely on their skin colour?!

              Duh. They're Pikmins, not people.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

So that makes it OK if you don't see them as people?

No, you assign the jobs to the Pikmin with the best ability to complete the task.

                    *phew*

So their skin colour doesn't indicate what they're good at, it's totally irrelevant other than it stops them from all looking the same?

                      No. It's totally colour-based.

I guess there are hints - the red Pikmin are fireproof; the blues can go in water etc. There's nothing to stop you sending blues up against firebreathing enemies, but your game won't last very long...

They all do the same basic things - fetch/carry/attack - then each group has an extra ability for you to manage.

Color coding is the simplest, most effective way to help users to distinguish between a,b or c. Red, blue, yellow, pink, purple and white pikmin all have their strengths and weaknesses and each present subtle to extreme visual differences, like yellow have ears, red have pointy noses while pink look like lil bees, purples are huge etc - but ultimately it is their colour that clearly helps the player to tell them apart.
