I reckon it's time a bit of a discussion came from this thread now the E3 dust has long settled and Gamescom etc are looming.
Anyone else wondering what the hell Nintendo are playing at? If the signs are to be believed the WiiU will launch worldwide in between 3-4 months. It's the first of the new line of consoles we'll be playing for the next 7-8 years and the successor to the biggest console of the current generation.
And you could be forgiven for not knowing it existed.
I've never known such a void of hype and prerelease momentum for a key console release before. There's a complete lack of PR momentum, a lack of information, a lack of key titles to drive interest, a lack of... well anything. Our first sign of branding came from the above boxarts, even they had to originally come in an unconfirmed form.
I know there's several shows coming where Nintendo might speak up but it seems incredibly last minute during what will be the busiest time of year where other key releases have to do months of PR to gain decent levels of interest. Feels like another example (like the 3DS and Vita launches) of a hardware maker resting on the laurels.

Not that hype matters in Europe cause knowing Nintendo as they are now, USA and Japan will take priority.
The silence is kinda suspicious although if they aim for November launch that gives the hype machine September and October to take full effect. Remember Nintendo are top of the pile so they don't really need to have a 6month hype campaign.Last edited by Family Fry; 10-08-2012, 11:53.

It doesnt really feel like a new console release does it? It feels more like a Wii upgrade, like a Gameboy advance launch or a DSLite launch, or a DSLiteplus or a 3DSXL etc etc etc
For me personally, simply having a Nintendo console HD is exciting news - it finally means i get to play Mario and Zelda n HD - a childhood dream finally, FINALLY coming true... Other than that... there is nothing for me to get excited about. Not yet...
This is not a next generation console being released, it is an upgrade coming too late - and it seems the world knows this. Im personally very excited because I love Nintendo and I want my HD Mario and Zelda, but i'm not the world.
EDIT:
And the ports... My god. The ports are depressing.
Even i cant get excited about games that have already been released on other platforms. Again, its another reason to see this release simply as an upgrade, and as cool as it is to have HD Nintendo games, it is equally depressing.Last edited by Adam Stone; 11-08-2012, 22:04.

If Nintendo showed off their new titles and games that they plan to release next year as well as any new exclusive games from 3rd parties then there would be a lot more to be excited about, at the moment from whats been shown so far theres not much to really get excited about other than the potential of Nintendo finally making HD games.

wwwrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttttttttt tttttttttttttttttt fffffffffffffgggggggggggggggg? 22nd Nov?
Obviously "out now for Christmas" but.... where's the hype? Will anyone notice?
Maybe they are counting on a recession. Everyone will buy a "cheap" WiiU for Christmas and then not have any money to buy other consoles, thus winning the race immediately.
