Halo Reach DLC

I was wondering if someone could explain to me how the DLC works in Reach as I want to know if I will have to shell out another ?15 to get the map packs or whether you can play Reach without having to download them still and that the map is only used if everyone the game finds has the map?

Just seeing many conflicting opinions online, thanks!

Ps. If you do need to buy them, where is the cheapest place to get points?

If you want to play online there are several playlists that don't require any DLC

RANKED
Lone Wolves: 8 player FFA
Team Slayer: 4v4

SOCIAL
Social Slayer: 5v5
MultiTeam 2v2v2v2

If you have the map packs you can play the other playlists, then those DLC maps will come up at random along with all the other built in maps.

Thanks for that, but from that I got you only need the DLC for the premium playlists when I clicked on Reach?

You only *need* it for the premium playlists, but you'll wait longer in matchmaking in the others without it as it can only match you with people with the same loadout of DLC. The playlists mentioned by Boris *never* use the DLC.

I'm not a fan of premium DLC, but bought the Defiant Map Pack for 800 MS Points and got 400 MSP back in a Rewards offer and then I got the Noble Map Pack when it was 400 MSP. They've finally given them dedicated playlists and I actually enjoy playing on them.
