    PSP design competition: win one!

Lik Sang just started a PSP design competition on their site.

They say all submissions will get posted on the site and viewers will choose the winner, who'll get a PSP unit. Deadline is December 15 or date the actual design'll be presented by Sony (if before 12/15).

What's your vision of the looks of Sony's handheld? I, above all, want a microswitch ministick like the NGPC sports, and a 80's transparent front showing all the circuitry. And mad LED's hard all over the box.

I need to stop using Corel, goddammit. There has to be a copy of Photoshop 6.0 or so lying around here somewhere...

I'd like to see how 'portable' this kitchen-sink handheld actully is...

Sony, has already stated what the machine is going to come equipped with (analogue stick, D-pad, 4 buttons etc) so surely most entries will have this in mind and look pretty similar?

Cant wait until this dude is released. I think it will urinate on the GBA quite badly so i am sure they have something up their sleeves which will come out at around the same time.

The PSP specs i have seen look amazing but the battery life is not so good apparently.

It will indeed urinate on the gameboy.

All they need to do is get the design, specs, price and marketing right along with developer support and the gameboy will be obsolete

Unfortunately it will signal and end to 16bit 2D graphics

One of the main reasons why im tentatively not too happy about this happening anytime soon.

The GameBoy has fended off far more graphically superior competitors in the past. This could be no exception.

Indeed, the Gameboy is often the weakest techology wise...

                  Gamegear, Lynx, NGPC, Wonderswan...

Heh yes, that was before this 'playstation generation' dont forget, so everyone loved ninty back then and nintendo were the first in the market. A very powerful company.

Now im afraid Sony is the most powerful, and the PS gen won't give a **** about the gameboy once the psp is released...

I don't know about all this urinating talk.

Anyway, I'm actually looking forward to this thing. Design-wise I'd rather have a somewhat bigger unit if that means I'll be able to play games on a larger screen than e.g. the GBA's.

I know it looks a bit odd, but something along the lines of this study here (mainly for screen size):

For me the dimensions of maybe a pocket PC like that would be something I'd see working out.

Yes, because of course, the GBA will be the last ever iteration of the Gameboy, and the hardware will never evolve any further.

This forum is becoming increasingly full of zealotry and fanboyism. This place used to be the last bastion of REAL gamers against the idiotic console fanboy hordes. I see that that's gone right out of the window now and that any fanboy gets to whine his whine on the forum.

And no, I'm not just basing it on this thread, it's all the time now, and has totally ruined the forum. By and large, most posters do a good job of ignoring it, but the fact remains that you shouldn't have to ignore it - It shouldn't happen in the first place.

Platform loyalty went out with my early teens. Many consoles, many merits, enjoy them all.

Yes, I have no doubt that several of the zealots will at lkeast be better than the typical Gamesradar zealot by trying to OWN several consoles, but that doesn't preclude the rampant fanboyism that Razz (amongst others) demonstrates on a daily basis.

                          To summarise: YAWN.
