    EA buys PopCap

Incredible really - I would have thought they would have been better off just staying independent. Although judging by the amounts being bandied about ($650m-$1.3bn), they are doing quite nicely from it (their turnover - not profit - was $100m last year).

Insane amounts for a studio operating primarily in a market that's reaching saturation point and where successful titles are incredibly hard to predict.

Seems a LOT for a company that only generated $100 million at arguably their peak, but I'm sure EA know what they are doing.

They've possibly looked at Angry Birds, Angry Birds christmas, Angry Birds Rio and realised that Popcap could be taking advantage of their IPs a bit more (although they did start to do stuff like that with Peggle).

From PopCap's position it seems like the perfect move, sell up for a fortune before the market collapses. Ka-Ching

Just so long as they were bought for cash and not paid in EA shares...

            *edit*

            Pop cap employs 400 people?!?

            What do they all do?

Not bad for a dev who's games all feel like Amiga PD titles.
