Part of me thinks I should have voted for the original GB, given just what it contributed to handheld gaming. Another part of me things I should have voted for the Game Gear because, for me, it felt at the time like I was seeing television level graphics on a handheld. The bright screen was fantastic and years ahead of the GB. But, of course, it was crippled by battery life.

But I voted for the Game Boy Color. Basically because, when I add up the hours, the GBC gave me more gaming pleasure than the other two. Even though many of the games I enjoyed on it were made for the monochrome GB, it was while holding a purple GBC, then a Pikachu yellow GBC, that I actually experienced them. Pokemon of course being a highlight but, for whatever reason, the real stand-out GBC memory for me is actually Pokemon Pinball.

So much eagerness from everyone for the newer handhelds, lol. Okay, I'll start up Part 2

A lot of people keep saying about how the GameGear was a powerhouse compared to the GB but its worth remembering the Lynx blitzed them both, hell some of the 3D Lynx games can easily stand toe to toe with the GBA. While the GB may have the most historical importance the one I would most want to actually play is the Lynx. People are still making games for it today too.

I remember back in the day many preferred the Lynx but I never really got near one for a decent length of time

I never owned a Lynx, but I remember borrowing one from a friend for a while. It's a decent console and the only thing holding it back was unique software. I did enjoy playing Rygar, Batman Returns and California Games on it though.

The main thing holding the Lynx back was the woeful battery life. You ended up playing the thing permanently hooked up to the mains.

I find the Game boy to be a very over rated console. It's only got a small number of genuine classics and a whole lot of mediocracy.

Conversely the Game gear has around the same number of excellent games but generally they're better quality overall.

Just a shame it ate batteries.
