Kinda hyped for the new Gears, and not having anything else to play at the moment, I started playing the first one again today. Five minutes later I decided to remove Gears 3 from my list. I don't know why I enjoyed the game as much as I did when it first came, but now the gameplay feels awfully mechanical . Most of the time is spent in cover, where all you do is aim the crosshair at one of the colossal enemies. The game seems very dumbed down for consoles (being Epics first real shooter for consoles, this makes sort of sense), as the enemies are very easy to see and hit, they all run very slow, and you are almost unable to move when aiming. And all of it happens at a very (compared to most other shooters) slow pace. All the rooms look similar with different wallpaper, and the path is as linear as they get. I guess the set-pieces and the "over the top"-ness made a bigger impression before I had been fatigued by the deafening nature of CoD and the likes.
Don't misunderstand me though, I will definitely pick it up at some point, but probably not before the Epic Mega Cool edition with all 200 weapon skins is available for half the price. The game has a lot of cool things going for it - horde mode looks phenomenal - but enough to make it a prioritized game in the holiday season.
