    The 3DS Conference

Decided to create a new thread about this, as the old one is very, very, very long.

THE RUMORS ARE TRUE: 3DS will get a second analog pad!

IGN has the first details: http://ds.ign.com/articles/119/1192682p1.html

The text also mentions Monster Hunter 3G, so that's two of the rumors already confirmed. Will this mean we will get a 3DS Lite sometime next year? One thing is for sure, I am NOT buying that add-on. The 3DS has no sleek to spare. Seems I have to sell and buy the next iteration. Nintendo sure has sped up the process this time around. Never before have being an early adopter given that much anal pain.

    Edit:
IGN has made a fuzz about the 3G in the Monster Hunter title, making us wonder if the device will add 3G functionality...

    Face, meet palm.

That's now going to kill 3DS sales for months because it's blindingly obvious they'll release a revision with the dual pads.

The second pad isn't even the same size.

I won't say the exact word for what that add-on slider is but I'll say it rhymes with bit, kit, hit, pit, sit... in fact that last one is very close.

A marvel in bad design and useless functionality. It's a clunky, impractical solution to a problem that was never a problem merely something a minority of whiners picked about. Very few developers will utilise that add-on due to the split in userbase it creates, if a 3DS Lite comes out with it then they might but it'd be better to have that system that this ugly attachment. Personally, with the 3DS only now managing to recover the stumbled launch positioning a 3DS Lite would be the worst thing Nintendo could have lined up, it would just further shake confidence in the original concept. It's not perfect but the hardware was the least of their mistakes.

Unless Nintendo actually has the new unit ready to ship before christmas, as some of the rumors said. Even though doing so will really confuse consumers, but the new pad attachment alone will succeed at that.

Wow. That is total absolute fail. Or, more accurately, blind panic caused by previous fail. I agree with both of you - the current 3DS doesn't need more bulk and, yes, who would buy a 3DS now as the next iteration won't be far behind. What the hell did I buy, Nintendo? A work in progress?

According to this though Nintendo will be releasing it it seems more connected to Monster Hunter than a general standard peripheral so it could end up being more like Motion Plus or the Classic Controller and being a selectly used add-on rather than a standard/3DS Lite indicator

its amazing they never realised it should be there when they designed it originally.

and i would get excited about monster hunter, but unfortunately nintendo went and region locked the bloody thing.

Especially given that pretty much everyone ever on every message board was saying it should have it.

If they want to appeal to a bigger demographic, they should release the "Nintendo 3DS Adult".

A new UI that isn't aimed at kids, proper buttons and sliders that don't feel like Fisher Price toys, and rounded corners that make the device comfortable for extended periods of time.

If they renege on the promise that they wouldn't release a revised hardware, they'll get crucified.

Nintendo just need to stop with the DS now. I've lost count how may versions of the DS are out there now. Just Stop.

That peripheral looks like a 3rd party job manufactured in Azerbaijan. Just atrocious. Given likely impact on 3Ds sales and loss of consumer trust, they're losing the plot big time.

I wonder if it actually *is* third party, specifically for Monster Hunter?

I hope Nintendo has a redesign up their sleeve, the add-on looks absolutely terrible. Launching MH3G with the add-on for users not willing to buy a new console and a special version of the redesign 3DS will essentially set the standard for the hardware.

I think the pin only dropped for Nintendo when they were told that stylus + slide pad games (like Kid Icarus) are unplayable for lefties. As time goes on, the rumour that the 3DS was rushed out to beat the Vita seems to have more and more weight to it.

That said, Nintendo have released consoles that clearly didn't have enough testing before: The original GBA and its famously dark screen.

Here's food for thought. Why was the ambassador program split in two with half last month and half at the end of this month? Perhaps they know there's another announcement coming up that'll piss off early adoptors so they delayed the GBA titles in order to go "ok we're announcing a new console but here's the goodies ambassadors will get!".

Price reduction, "new product announcement", suspicious timing of the freebies, 01net's rumours... a new model seems very likely.

I wish they would just design stuff right to start with. Didn't people tell them they needed one of these controllers anyway. I certainly won't be buying another if they do redesign I would sooner put my money towards a PS Vita.
