Are online FPS at risk of dying from cheats

Has anyone here tried putting a real dot on their screen for use in COD for sniping etc?

Is this cheating?

Part of me wants to try it. The other part is revulsed by putting anything on the screen. Even finger marks freak me out.

You mean like those ones sold on ebay? I always found them most curious.

Since getting my internet set up I've been playing MW2 on the PS3 a fair bit and haven't come across anyone I think is cheating. This is in contrast to when I used to play on LIVE a year or so ago where you would see one or two each night.
