Looks interesting. Best 3D fighter bar VF for me. Bit bored of the genre by DoA4 though but fighters seem to be coming back.

graphics get prettier - gameplay stays the same accelerated mash fest

It won't be deep but at least with DOA they seem to be trying to change up the gameplay

I've always liked DOA. I remember buying the first one for my Saturn at a redicilous price at my local import shop, then part 2 on the DC, part 3 and Ultimate on the xbox and part 4 on the 360. I played them all a lot. Sure it's not as deep as VF but it's good fun when playing with friends.

The best thing about the DOA games for me is the environments, bits like kicking the opponent off a bridge and leaping after them is just brilliant. It's one of the few instances where I wish someone ripped them off completely, just to see where other firms would take the idea.

They won't copy it. Such a thing completely messes with the balance. I think DoA is a rather boring fighter if you play it on a stage where you can't kick eachother off. There are not all that many options during a fight and the response is a bit random.

Tekken only incorporated it to some extent, so that nothing really changed or messed up the balance (the ground break was just a normal bounce procedure).

Yeah, I would agree with that. Other series tried to use the environments a bit but ditched the idea, although they never took it as far as DOA. That (and the quality of the graphics) was always the only reason I played DOA, I think they started it with DOA2. Besides that feature it gets boring quickly, but it's the only reason I play the games from time to time... The moves aren't interesting enough for me, I think. It can be great fun in 2 player mode, sometimes.

Yeah, the environment stuff makes it more fun, but it's too random a factor for tournament play. By all means have it, but let it be disabled.

I wonder if it will be less perverse since the director got sacked for sexual harassment (or something)

The character design already does seem a little reined in...

Did he? I thought he just left. Or was that a joke, I guess it was.
