    GAMEfest 2011 anyone go?

    Well i did,

and to be fair it was good. it had a large mixture of games from the more family friendly fare like just dance 3 and disney universe to teh hardcore stuff like gears of war uncharted 3 and assassins creed revelations.

    The Good stuff i saw:

Nintendo booth was interesting. plenty of 3ds games on show and not too bad on the q front. You were able to play mario Kart 7, super mario 3d land, kid icarus, metal gear solid snake eater 3d and others. i have to say that the games i played were impressive mario was great fun as was mario kart. Zelda had its own booth and was skyward sword and ocarina of time (didn't manage to win an ocarina boo!).

Sony's booth had a load of games that again you could just walk up and play, i played ICO in 3d and SOTC also in 3d and these were vastly improved over there PS2 counterparts with framerate and graphics. Though a show floor is perhaps not the best setting for this it was still enjoyable. Also shown were journey pixeljunk side scroller and lots of others.

Xbox area had a load of games in it played forza 4 and that was impressive, halo anniversary was also impressive the graphics switching while a gimmick was a really good way of showing how far that game has come. I played Kinect sports 2 darts and that will be a family favourite here come christmas time. Gears was there as was Mass effect 3 (so hyped for this Now)

special mention to capcom booth with streetfighter x tekken resident evil and asuras wrath friendly staff and not to bad in the q department.

    The bad stuff.

    Queues

They were approaching infinite wait times for skyrim, MW3, and SW the old republic though towards the end of the day these died down considerably, Q jumping was dealt with with a stern word rather than violence but people were of course very protective of their spot.

really enjoyable day out for those of us unhappy with eurogamer choice not to have leeds this year. well worth a visit though i might suggest either fri or sunday to go next year.

GAMEfest? More like QueueFest. Before 3pm everything had a massive queue, it almost seemed pointless being there. Battlefield 3 had a queue time of an hour, yet from that point it took 2 hours. Sega and Nintendo did it well, having machines on offer for people to watch and queue to play, but as you could just watch the games and they had a lot of machines you'd only have a couple of people in front of you for each pad.

Some nice goodies like a Drive soundtrack LP, ocarina and an avatar figure of all things but the long queue times for practically everything put a dampener on the event for me. Queues were badly managed as they often didn't say what they were even for. Also when i went to play Halo Anniversary, it was multiplayer (so basically reach) which was disappointing.

It was their first one to be fair, i'd expect they'd learn from it and make changes for next years, like increasing the floorplan size for the more popular titles, I was there for the 2 days prior and thought the stands for MW3 BF3 etc would be way too small for when it's opened to the public, friday would have been the best option as the saturday and sunday was sold out and there was 3000 tickets spare for friday, I know a few people who went and general opinion was that they enjoyed it overall despite the queues.

I went to Gamefest and I really enjoyed it. The queues were mainly for games that have an 18 rating and had to be shielded from youngsters eyes. Yes they were long but I have zero interest in war games. The games I wanted to play were readily availiable to try. The 3ds stuff and Street Fighter X Tekken. Sould Calibur 5 was great also.
