I could never get into those Fantasy games, but Oblivion was amazing and sucked me right in. I like having a relaxing game to play once and a while, Oblivion didn't require any effort to play, twas nice.

With every issue, their reviews alienate me further.

      Nothing to add except that.

I think I may cancel. Purely on a cannot afford basis. I was subscribing for around ?8.50 a quarter, now they are bumping the price to ?10.92 a quarter making it more expensive than GamesTM. Quite a significant rise in my eyes!

Your favourite era thus far? (sorry for thread de-railing)

Not as such, I've had that same avatar since I joined the forums many years ago and I guess I never changed it! I just discovered my DD was ?8.78 previously, but still a steep rise per year which is a shame.

While I think Edge has slipped a bit I still find parts of it enjoyable. Some of the reviews scores lately have seemed rather harsh. Without reading the review of Dead Island I hear it has its faults but from what I have seen of it 3 does seem rather low. Interested to see what they say. I perhaps guess they have done away with their view of same old stuff gets lower scores as GOW III demonstrates. I personally think games like this can still be very good and was not disappointed in Gran Turismo 5 for example or the many PES footy games I have played. If it ain't broke...

My negative Edge comment is that I'm really sad they've dropped the retrospectives (can't remember what they called them now) since the redesign. For me it was probably the best part of the magazine. It frequently introduced me to games I did not know and talked compellingly about them over a few thousand words, offering the kind of reflection absent from the shorter reviews. I remember when they did one on OOT the other year I was reluctant to read it as I knew it would have me plugging away at the game again and I had other games I needed to play. I read it, and yes, I went back to OOT and finally finished it.
