Now I know we're in an alternate reality. I don't care what anyone says, if you'd been playing FPS games for a few years, and knew the genre, then Halo had to be one of the most regressive, disappointing, abysmal examples available. As the first game I had on my shiny new Xbox I was bitterly disappointed. My absolute hatred for Halo is so intense as to be difficult to articulate. I will never understand why everyone doesn't utterly despise it. There's nothing there!

Yes, I'm blaming Square for the death of the Dreamcast.
Anyway it would have been fun to see Atari keep the Amiga rights and chipset

There are plenty of games I despise that are well thought of amongst gamers, too.
Anyway, back OT, here's another:
Nintendo decide to continue working alongside Sony. The Nintendo PlayStation is born and the Nintendo/Sony merger happily ticks along until Sony drops its contractual bombshell and Nintendo's cherished IP becomes property of Sony. As a result, Nintendo is forced into a position of only creating software for whatever hardware Sony puts out. The influential Mario 64 becomes Mario PSX on the Nintendo PlayStation 2, whose hardware is dictated by Sony at this point. Thus, there is no analogue or camera buttons, and the game turns out to be more of a 2.5D affair with loading times and FMV cut scenes.
Sony buys Rare, which becomes part of SCEE.

Nintendo lose their court case against Universal, which forces ownership of Donkey Kong to the latter. Universal subsequently buys the whole company, leaving Nintendo live out the rest of their days making games based on movie licences, before quietly folding. Howard Lincoln continues his legal career; Hiroshi Yamauchi commits suicide. Shigeru Miyamoto remains obscure, though he is later found doodling dinosaurs, turtles and plants on the walls of his padded cell. The PC Engine subsequently rules the world.
