Who knows why it's such a hit but the release of Wii Party U in Japan saw hardware sales leap from 2,600 to 38,802. Good news for the system at last
Seeing how many second hand units are available in places like book off suggests otherwise they are so cheap here, I saw one listed up for ?15,000 (about ?95)
The basics of Wii Party U look fine but it comes across like less charming Mario Party. Then again, Mario Party is popular and so far Ninty hasn't done a WiiU Mario Party 10 so maybe that contributes a bit. Mario 3D World, as you say, has to be fuelling it too. Again it shows how the system could sell if Ninty took it's finger out its ass

Call of Duty Ghosts is 2013's third biggest launch sales wise. Hilariously the PS4 version sold more than the PC and WiiU versions despite the system not even being out. Add to that...

Final Fantasy Lightning Returns takes the Japanese top spot as Super Mario 3D World opens soft. Sales were solid but also the lowest figures for a new 3D Mario title.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Square Enix) - 277.082 / New
Super Mario 3D World (Wii U, Nintendo) - 99.588 / New
One Piece: Unlimited World Red (3DS, Namco Games) - 83.605 / New
Pokemon X & Y (3DS, Pokemon Co.) - 72.932 / 3.002.738
Aikatsu! 2-nin no My Princess (3DS, Bandai Namco) - 72.087 / New
God Eater 2 (Vita, Bandai Namco) - 39.052 / 305.378
World Soccer Winning Eleven 2014 (PS3, Konami) - 35.879 / 187.678
Call of Duty: Ghosts Subtitled Edition (PS3, Square Enix) - 29.252 / 219.883
Monster Hunter 4 (3DS, Capcom) - 21.120 / 2.959.789
God Eater 2 (PSP, Bandai Namco) - 20.508 / 132.531
Weekly hardware sales (previous week)
3DS - 84.506 (70.102)
Vita - 28.912 (88.522)
Wii U - 21.002 (15.906)
PS3 - 12.436 (12.019)
PSP - 3.546 (4.353)
Wii - 4.353 (518)
Xbox 360 - 342 (404)
Total - 151.201 (149.652)
Again WiiU sales were solid, but Mario failed to make the massive impact Ninty would have hoped for.
Hardware wise, barring the 3ds, everything in Japan seems pretty dead. I suppose people are waiting for the ps4. Is the Bone even launching in the east?
