Leisure Suit Larry HD remakes announced

Leisure Suit Larry, the video game franchise that made its name off the back of virtual sexual innuendo, is being remad…

The original lovable loser of video gaming is coming back, with the series creator Al Lowe on-board. All original adventures are planned to make a return with new visuals, starting with the first game in late 2012. They are going to be available on practically every platform on the market.

I literally gasped when I read the thread's title. I had resigned myself to the idea that this once great series was doomed to obscurity or, even worse, would only be brought back to be dragged through the mud in some dumbified form. Knowing that Al Lowe is involved as a consultant and that Paul Trowe (Replay Games Inc.'s founder) is a former Sierra employee gives me hope that the series will be handled with a measure of love and respect.

It's a shame that the visual style they're going for is a bit too cartoonish for my taste, but that won't prevent me from supporting the hell out of this!

But Vivendi had sold the Leisure Suit Larry brand to Codemasters, which had let it lay dormant since producing the critically excoriated Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust in 2008.
Sadly, this means that other classic series from Sierra such as Space Quest or Quest for Glory will probably have to lay dormant for a while longer... Well, Telltale Games found a way for being allowed to take the King's Quest series for a spin, so all is not lost.

Along with Age of Decadence (whose thread has misteriously vanished), we have a new game to look forward to that no one else will care much about!

Hey, I care! I've never played the Larry games but have always been aware of them.

I know a lot of people still care about the Leisure Suit Larry games.

Now, if you also care about detailed, realistic, turn-based RPGs filled with choices that have meaningful consequences, check out The Age of Decadence. Here are a couple of links since the thread we used to have here is nowhere to be found:

Against RPG Decadence: Vince D. Weller Interview on Rock, Paper, Shotgun

That's one of the most interesting (and humorous) interviews I have ever read. Anyone who loves RPGs should have a look at some of the considerations he makes.

Hmmm, is it PC only? My PC can't handle modern games and I haven't played an RPG since... I can't even remember. Sounds good, though.

            Heheh, good to know.

No worries, I'll start a new thread in the headlines of AoD when it gets nearer release.

I also agree that the graphics of Larry could be little less over-the-top and cartoony but I guess these might still be concept images and the final product might look different.

            P.S. "Ken sent me."

It's an older looking indie game so it shouldn't take too much to work on older machines.

Yeah, it probably won't be very demanding on the hardware. I expect it will run on pretty much anything.

Back then, the atmosphere over at Sierra must have been so great that developers would happily poke fun at themselves, their colleagues and even their bosses.

              For instance:

I just remembered this, from the same game (Conquests of Camelot):

Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded was released today!

It can be bought directly from Replay Games Inc.'s website for $19.99 (DRM free, I believe). It's also available on Steam and should be coming to GOG.com in the near future.

I'm strangely tempted to buy this shirt...

This was released on GOG.com today for the same price of $19.99. I hope they manage to include some of the Kickstarter extras at a later date because, right now, the ones being offered are somewhat crappy.

Here's an honest, well-written opinion on this remake.
