Youkai Watch, new 3DS game coming from Level 5

how dare you sir, these games are of higher quality than some of Nintendos own games.

Hehe! Greedily I want it bundled with the two versions of Youkai 2 as well, as a 'premium' edition. S'only fair.

Wondering if level 5 plan to deal with the issue of unlockable content, in the game there are 5 secret jewel versions of jibanyan these are only obtainable if you scan in one of the 5 medals with the QR code on, once scanned they appear somwhere in the game for you to find & try to befriend.


The easiest way if they don't plan on doing the merchandise is to just add these into the game so no QR codes are required, or the worse method will to be to remove the QR code counter in the bank & pretend that they never existed in the first place. Like Nintendo has done multiple times with various games when releasing them in the UK just strip out the content & pretend it never existed.

The second game has a lot of these QR code only youkai as well.

Well in Japan they technically already did that however they were either part of the medal set or bundled in with something else.

The orange & blue ones (topaz,sapphire) were the secret campaign medals in the first series of medal booster packs. The red one (ruby) was given away in the youkai watch friends fanbook magazine, the green one (emerald) was in the 2nd volume of the manga & the white one (diamond) was bundled in with the DX watch & medal binder set,

Really should get around to doing the merchandise medal feature i had planned.

Are the QR codes unique or can you just use a photo from the internet?

If they're just for colour changes to the cat-thing they needn't bother, on my behalf anyway.

The QR codes are unique on each medal, all medals can only be used once on the youkai watch medaland website. If you try to scan it again the site will tell you it's already registered, if you have multiples of the same medal they can all be registered but not the same exact medal.

In the 3DS game the codes can only be used once per save file however the codes can be shared with others who have the game as they work on any game even if someone else has used it on theirs they are not locked in that way. People have already shared the codes online from their medals for the 5 houseki nyans, they are not just simple reskins each one has it's own voice & personallity slightly different to jibanyan.

Another question, Importaku. Does each game cart have multiple save slots or just one, as in Pokemon?

Both the first & second game have 3 save slots each, which is probably a good thing as if you play as either Keita or Fumika the story subtly changes when people talk to you. On all my carts i have saves as both of them although my saves as Keita have a lot more playtime on them, between all my save files i have easily at least 200 hours of playtime. These games are pretty long lasting just like pokemon, the main story can be completed reasonably quickly but the post game content is amazing value for money.

The lyrics are pretty weird once it gets to the pooping part lol, funnily enough whever they broadcast it on tv they end the song before it gets to them asking if why their poo stinks is a youkai's fault
