    Mario Killed My Tanooki

PETA has pursued its usual low brow route of trying to attract attention to its cause by labelling Mario an animal killer. Frankly its a bit absurd, complaining about the fur is fine but by being selective they're effectively condoning the massacre of turtles in the games.

Still, they were good enough to make a free game of it for everyone.

Epic quote from the very start.

Silly PETA, Mario gets his Tanooki suit from a magical leaf. And who says it's real Tanooki fur, maybe Mario made it from old bath robes or something?

And here I thought PETA couldn't get more ridicolous after the rat in MW3.

Yeah, this is what I'm thinking too. I mean, Hamleys have a dude in a bear suit - does that mean they're advocating fur too?

But, as crazytaxinext says, this is an attempt to attract attention and I guess they succeeded. I mean, I never knew these raccoon dog things were killed for fur. I know next to nothing about fur. So, if they genuinely believe Mario promotes fur, I think that's a real stretch and not all that smart. But if it's a case that they're just trying to create awareness, I think this probably wasn't a bad route except for coming out and saying Mario promotes fur. Although maybe they think that anything less wouldn't have got the write-ups? Not sure this quite worked for them.

Nintendo has responded to animal rights group PETA's attack on Super Mario 3D Land, saying the Italian plumber's animal…

Nintendo officially responds essentially saying it's fine because it's fun

So they think it's ok to jump up and down on moles' heads until they die? Interesting.

Where was this bitching when Mario 3 was released on the NES?

Sounds like PETA have a more recent vendetta against video gaming in general!

Edit: just seen their "game" - absolutely disgusting and very hypocritical of PETA. What message does THAT give? Nintendo really ought to sue as well, not sure they'd take kindly to having their mascot illustrated in such a way.

Whenever I see news about PETA, I immediately remember that one hypocritical PETA c*nt who was against insuline medication which is developed by animal testing, but when later SHE needed it herself, she had no problems taking the meds to save her life, because "she could do more good to the animals alive than dead". "It's okay for OTHER people to die, but I'm TOO IMPORTANT!"

PETA has back peddled by saying its attack on Mario was only a joke to get attention and fans should relax which really shows what an immature outfit they are. Not from a fan perspective but from a corporate one as they effectively publicly accused Nintendo of supporting animal cruelty without just cause but seem to think there's no issue with that. Prats.

I remember when they did that one having a go at Cooking Mama, and the devs were all 'actually, thats quite a cool little minigame, we might use that'. Heh.

PETA are all about sensationalism. Go look up 'Sea Kittens' next time you're feeling calm and want some RAGE to warm your heart.
