Playing Skyrim got me thinking about my time with Dragon Age Origins. The first NPC companion I've got in Skyrim is as thick as a plank, has absolutely no AI and just does what she wants and there's nothing I can do to stop her short of telling her to leave or killing her. In contrast Dragon Age let me set very specific cause and effect type rules for each of the NPCs e.g.
Use ranged attack with bow until attacked close up, then switch to sword. When health gets to 30% take potion, if health gets to 10% run away. Target enemy that is attacking me. Do not attack unless I do etc. (i may have made some of those up but you get the point).
Anyway, it'd be cool if Skyrim took the amazing scale and everything else it does so well but allowed me to 'program'
to not be so stupid.
Any other games that could be significantly improved by taking a bit from a similar game that does it better?
